There were earlier reports (2012) that when using a Gemini CDMP-7000 it would crash or freeze up VDJ when switching it from midi control mode to play from a USB or a CD in either deck. I am considering this unit as I DJ a lot of weddings and never know when someone will bring me a CD or portable USB drive to play from.... (yea people still bring me CD's). If this is going to cause VDJ to freeze up or stall than forget it!
Anyone know if VDJ or Gemini CDMP-7000 firmware updates have fixed this issue?
I am trying to get away from Timecode CD's, too unstable and inaccurate. Problem is, I still need the versatility of playing from a USB drive (at least) because I cant say that my laptop will never crash during a wedding! If it crashes, I want to be able to switch over to a USB stick ASAP.
I would love to hear any opinions on a versatile software controller, that can be switched from a USB drive back to midi with no hickups.
I am will to look at all in one controllers or a CDJ's type with midi.
Thanks!

This is not exclusive to the CDMP-7000. There are a large number of products that work this way.
Basically the audio interface has to be disconnected from the computer when the device is switched to standalone playback, so that the sound from the internal hardware can be routed through it. Obviously this then means that the computer can no longer "see" the audio interface.
It's the catch to using a dual function device, and would affect any software the same way - not just VDJ.
It's not something that Atomix can fix. It's just the way this type of hardware operates.
Having said that, there are some products that work around the issue - but they tend to be the more expensive ones.

why not just pop the cd or memystick in you laptop and read it from there?
I would of course do this on my backup lappy , not my main one, unless you trust the contents !

Because that relies on the laptop working.
