As I always use a 4 deck skin I find having 4 waves in the window a bit 'busy' sometimes, especially as I use a lot of named cue points. I wanted to ask is it feasable for me to add into the skin I use a 2nd wave window (or even 1 per deck) with a master to the active / selected decks as per the inbuilt menu choice already there.
I have done an edit of a couple of skins to be more users friendly for me so have an understanding of skin graphics and xml so I would assume it would be just as case of squeezing everything a bit to make room for the new wave areas and sorting out the xml
Be gratful for your thoughts on this in particular if I'm right in thinking its feasable!!

I'm not quite grasping your concept - but yes, I'd say it's possible to adjust things.
What skin would you want to do this on?

prob didn't explain myself very well ... so I've adapted the default VDJ8 4 Deck Skin with a few extra elements so far and now I would like to add in an wave window specific for each deck so I can see each decks own cue points ect..
In the main wave window I would use the "choose Wavform button" to only show the active playing deck and 1 other selected deck. So if for example I am playing out on Deck1 and the next track to be played is deck 2 both waveforms would be in the main window, Deck 3 & 4 waves wouldn't be thus making the main wave window a bit easier to read.
I'm 100% sure the re- design of the image file on the skin is doable as you can pretty much do what you like with that, its the xml file I'm not 100% sure can be adapapted to do what I want!

So you'd have four separate buttons, one for each deck, to determine whether to show the rhythmwave for it or not?

wasn't on my list of 'requirements' but thats actually a great idea to add in anyway as it gives a bit more flexibilty on choosing what deck is shown in the main window !

Why not instead panel the browser and have all 4 scratch waves
geposted Fri 23 Jan 15 @ 6:42 am
I'm assuming you mean by panal them using vertical waves Loco as in scratch mode? I've never been a "scratcher" (Unless I've got an itch that is !!) For me I prefer the waves going across the screen plus my main reasoning behind trying this is because of the difficulty in reading named cue points when all 4 decks are in the same window. in fairness it doesnt really matter when playing out live at a gig or show its only for when I'm building mixes at home.

I think loco is suggesting putting four horizontal scratch waves below the decks, in the browser area - one below the other.
Either have a show browser/waves option or just reduce the browser height.
Some skins can already do that. It's easier than increasing the rhythmwave area at the top, which can involve moving every element below it down.

Ahh I see - apologies Loco If I misunderstood you. I appriciate moving all the other elements and adjusting the coordinates in them would be a long winded task as I found out before when doing my other edits to the skin, hence doing something similiar to what your suggestion now Groovin in that I put what I needed between the descks and browser area.
My instinct is telling me I need to put these wave windows under the main one purley so "it right there in front of me" but I will try it first down by the browser as suggested to see how I get on with it from a user point of view worst case if I can't deal with it I can always move it and adjust everythnig else.
This requirement is really not a critical thing more a nicity for me so if it doesnt work or becomes to complicated its no real big deal to be honest.

Excuse the mess it's a stationary WIP, but I have a keyboard short cut to swap the browser space to show Large waves (I'll be including the CBG+ Cues, hack in time) set left (so I can see further into track)
Either you're in the mix and you don't need the browser or you're not in the mix and you don't need scratch waves
I wish I could skin at a decent speed.

bloody hell thats really good Loco - if your worried about skinning at a decent speed - don't that would of taken me all day to do !! lol
I'm assuming you could add in a button to switch from browser to waves on the basis you say there is a shortcut key for it anyway? I was initially worried about have the waves in the browser area as the eye is naturally drawn to the main waves at the top (for me anyway!) but it not exactly hidden where you've put it !! It would be nice to see the code and image file you've got so far to use as a basis but not sure how you can send it to me (if you wouldn't mind that is) I don't think we are allowed to post email address here is there a PM option on the forum?

I could mod the skin you're using, if you care to drop me a PM.
It's not hard to switch the browser for a panel that has four big scratchwaves or rhythmwaves in it.

Aye take groovin up on his offer,
I can pm with my LE licence but you'll get more clarity from groovin, and yes you can have a on skin button to switch a panel and you can map it to a controller too
"Take you all day" ? :-)
that mess of mine took a couple of hours a day for a few weeks, and the xml is a disgrace I was figuring stuff out as I went so some really counter productive coding went in.
If only there was a way V8 could handle unzipped skins even if it is really heavy on processing, so much time waste zipping & reloading the skin, checking, nudging, rezipping maybe if I set up right Dual monitor I could be more productive.

It can (at least it did last time I tried). In fact that's the recommended way for skin testing.
I tend to zip though, as I don't like having loose XML and PNG or BMP files in my skin dir. I have a WIP folder where I save my unzipped files so they're out of the way of the "live" working stuff.
