Topic: Beginner DJ Equipment Help!!!

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I have decided to DJ for my school in a month or so and I have practiced for a long time using Virtual DJ. I now need to get some gear to make it official and run a good show. I need advice on what equipment I need, shouldn’t use, or any other tips. Please recommend the right cables I need and equipment to go with what I already have or maybe what I should not be using. I currently have,
Macbook Pro
Numark Mixtrack Pro II
Shure Mic – don’t have cables or anything yet
Pioneer HDJ 1500 Headphones

Things I don’t have but need. The links are things that I was hoping to get, will they be okay?

things you will need in addition to what you have .....

1 cables from mixer to amplifier ...
2 Amplifier
3 Cables from amplifier to speakers
4 speakers
5 clean edits of your music

as for the ebay link that is just speakers and to be honest probably not worth the money if this is just going to be a 1 off for you i would rent the equipment otherwise save your money and get some reliable stuff that will last a while.

for example a pair of these http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EON615 they require no amp because its built in
or these http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Thump15

just some examples there are many many options out there and really this is a hard question to answer there and many factors that will decide what you need like how many people will be there the layout of the venue etc all of these things a good rental place can help you figure out.

good luck and have fun.

Agreed - those speakers are just way too cheap. As the saying goes - buy cheap, buy twice.

You'll regret it in no time, when they don't perform as expected, or the second you hear something better.

Definitely save up (or borrow some money) until you can get something that'll be good enough to last for a few years. Alternatively just hire some good speakers in for the day.

Thanks for the reply, so are you saying that I should rent the sound system and will an amp come along with that or would I need to buy one myself? I huess lighting is the only thing I need correct?

Yes, if this forthcoming gig is a one off event and you don't already have the gear (or can't afford it yet) then renting is a good option.

You'll be able to use better equipment than you could afford, and they will probably be prepared to give you a package deal on sound + lights.

I just noticed those speakers you linked to have 8" drivers and are only 200W RMS (not 1600!). For a typical school hall full of kids they are nowhere near suitable. You would have embarrassed yourself. Find yourself a rental company, tell them what the event is, the size of hall, number of attendees and they will advise you.

Lighting is always optional but I find it helps. Depends if the event is going to be bright or dark. If it can be dark then I think it will be better. School kids r usually shy about dancing. if the lighting is dark they don't feel so in the spot light and everyone can see them. Dj light helps create a cool atmosphere.

What city and state do you live in? The reason I ask, if you live in NJ, I could rent you a sound system, and teach you at the same time. Maybe others on the forum, may be willing to do the same. You need some professional help, because just showing up with some equipment will not cut it. Also, renting from a dealer, may be out of your budget. If you are doing this for free, or for a small amount of money, how much can you afford to rent sound and lighting? Do you have a vehicle big enough, to even pick the equipment up from the dealer? The link you showed, is a joke, do not waste your time. There is some important information missing, how many kids, how big is the room.

I am from Hershey, Pennsylvania. If i had someone like you help me It would be absolutely amazing.

I'm willing to bet we have users in that area. Hopefully, one of them will step up. Good luck.
