Is there a way to shut off the slideshow so that the video screen remains black? I tried clicking the master effect and it just stays *on*.

just click the BIG preview Video window right on the middle.

If you have slideshow set as the audioOnlyVisualisation then it will remain active of you have an audio file loaded in the left or right video decks.
To turn it off you would have to set the visualisation back to None.

I do that and the video window disappears. I haven't had the chance to try this on a secondary display, but I have a feeling it won't look good.

Yes, I do have it set for audioOnly. It kind of stinks that I have to go back to set it to none. Wouldn't it make sense to be able to "toggle" the Master Effect like we can do with audio effects?

You can toggle it on and off from there. Just set audioOnlyVisualisation to None, then you can manually toggle it on/off like any other effect.

No, it wouldnt make sense since the activation of the effect is controlled by VDJ, because that is what you have told it to do when you set it as the audio visualisation.
As Adion says either disable it as the visualisation if you want manual control, or simply toggle it from the settings menu or even add a custom button to do it from a single click.

Does not make any sense to show and treat the AOV like any other plugin. It looks the same, shares slots with other instances of itself, can be hard to set data for it, forces a disappearing act... but since it is AOV it's behavior is not the same anymore... bottom line it is confusing and the AOV implementation makes no sense...
