The action
browser_sort '-bpm'
does not work.
browser_sort '-artist' does not work too. But I'm not sure if that should work in general.
As far as I could test it the "-" modifier never did anything.

While this is fixed in the latest build, it is still not behaving as I would expect it.
I would expect that the sorting is descending with a first button press and ascending with a second press.
Same for the + modifier.

If you use '-' or '+' then you force the sort to use either. If you use just 'bpm' then it should switch between ascending/descending.

Yes that is correct. But if I want to force it to sort it descending first by using '-' I still would assume that it would sort ascending if I press the button again.
My understanding of this operation is that the '-' will only tell VDJ which sort direction to use first. In that case descending but still maintain the default behaviour for the browser_sort. And that is, press 1 sort in one direction. Press again, sort the other direction.
Do you know what I mean?

Same issue I posted the other day.

Yes, that is the resulting bug report I told you in your other thread I would create.

Got ya. Replied when barely awake and didn't notice it was the the same user! Sorry about that.

NO!
That was the exact reason the force ordering with - or + was added. That no matter how it's sorted you will know the direction of the sorting after pressing the button.
Imagine being in a big list with a "small" browser (lets say 200 files with 10-15 files visible on browser)
You are in an area that all BPM's are 96. Now please tell me which way I need to scroll (up or down) to go to 100 BPM's ?
If you sort with just 'BPM' it toggles the sorting everytime you press. Since you are only seeing 96 you still don't know which direction to go.
If you sort with +BPM then you know that you need to down to go to 100's
But what happens if BPM was already sorted by +BPM (and you don't remember) ? With your proposal it would reverse sort order. So you would go down only to find out you need to go up!
That's a draft example why this "force" was added and why it needs to stay this way...
PS: By default VirtualDj sorts ascending the first time when you switch sorting column and then it toggles.
So, browser_sort 'bpm' would always sort ascending if you change sorting from another column and then it would toggle

This has been going for a long time (well...ever since VDJ8 got released), there's been no real solution as far as I can see for some of us old skool Dj's who just want the browser to behave like VDJ7's browser did. My solution is unfortunately more than a click. click/select on any track in the browser then ctrl +A and then click any of the headers you want to at the of the browser (title, artist, play count, bpm, last played, first played etc . This will adjust each column how you want it AND - it keeps the scroll bar at the top at all times (< that is very important to me). Result is if you have a 150 tracks in a folder but you can only see about 20 - you will always see the most or the least or A-Z or oldest - newest etc at the top each time. Hope that made sense, and I hope that's what the original poster was trying to do - otherwise I'm just talkin B*$$*x

Thanks Phantom. Now I understand the idea behind it.
@LSL50:
You don't have to CRTL+A all tracks just to sort them.
And the behaviour of always staying at the top of the list was changed with v8 after many users asked for it.
Think of it that way:
You are scrolling through your list and find a track with 100 BPM. Now you want to know what tracks in the same range are available. So you click onto the BPM column header to sort it by BPM.
Two thinks now, the v7 behaviour and v8 behaviour:
Version 7 would now jump back to the top and you would have to scroll down and search your 100 BPM track again and have a look what other tracks are around it.
Version 8 keeps the selected track in focus while sorting the list. That way you don't have to scroll through the list again.
Personally, I like the v8 way better.

oh ok, well first off I didn't know it was a requested feature. The 2nd thing - why wasn't it an option in settings so it could please both camps?. Also I hate the focus, it's the only thing I dislike in VDJ8. Finally - The ctrl+A is the only way the scroll bar stays at the top which is where i want it as 98% of what I'm looking for is always in view

browser_scroll 'top'
This command will navigate you on the top of the list.
So, if you don't use your mouse but you use buttons to change sort order e.t.c. try this:
browser_sort 'bpm' & repeat_start 'GoToTop' 100ms 1 & browser_scroll 'top'
Instant fun!!! :)
