Handbrake audio quality looks inferior when using its presets. I had trouble increasing the audio quality of vob to mp4 conversion. Also it has a tiresome method of constructing a queue. WinFF is a simple drag and drop interface. With good presets it's vastly superior to Handbrake (in my opinion).
I don't want to go into detail..but pm me if you need help with the presets.
Remember to check your mp4 audio quality in Spek.
IT'S IMPORTANT!
(don't forget to use your ears as well, I may be incorrect, life is tricky)

Ron i have created a preset so you can test with good settings in handbreak :-)
grab it here -> http://www.wicked-mix.com/wickedmix-handbreak.json .. right click and save as
below the presets there is a button labeled options click it then hit
import from file do that select the file then it should show in your preset list at the bottom
superior audio every time :-)
enjoy.....

btw this should adapt to the video source size up to 1080p
it will not up size only down size if over 1080p

It's not drag and drop for 20 or so vob's is it!
That's the point.
I could mess around with the Handbrake presets.
The queue method in Handbrake is terrible!!!
I don't want to be stupid..thanks for the preset and I will have a look.
We need open minds.
My superior audio is a combination of an audio spectrograph and my ears.
It takes a lot of beating.

It can if you have a "batch" file........

Don't need to..the Handbrake gui is pretentious, and inefficient.
People can have a look at both and form their own opinion.
WinFF is in the spirit of Linux.
Hm..
There is much to learn, and that includes everyone.
Note: A few batch vob to mp4 conversions using a variety of scripts can be applied to more than one piece of software.
DO YOU REALLY WANT TO MESS AROUND WITH A SCRIPT IF YOU CAN JUST DRAG AND DROP?
Have fun.

No scripts bro........... just drag n drop all the files you want then hit a button and when you wake up the next morning BOOM, all your files are ready to go.
You have much to learn, your just mad because you don't understand what I'm saying yet. ;-p

I can already just drag and drop with WinFF.. and wake up the next morning, whatever, you're being silly.
Explain the details of your method and I'll try and keep an open mind.
I'm not second best to you..Grasshopper on the small side.

My method is to run all the videos I want (drag n drop to hand brake), select my preset then hit a button and watch all my selected files be converted.
It is POSSIBLE with Handbrake but you have yet to figure that out.
Have fun.

Handbrake is a pretentious and complicated piece of software.
Try looking at the simple WinFF.
I've looked at both, and more Grasshopper.

You've annoyed me Beatbreaker.
We had a DJ in Europe who recently needed help converting his karaoke DVD's to mp4..but you only turn up to argue. Adion suggested Handbrake, but seemed unaware of any simplifying batch methods. More than some..Adion was100% trying to helping the man.
Hm I'm complimenting too many big shots..including Microsoft. Anyway I can squabble with everyone later when their in the wrong.

Ok Ron, geez quit crying already.
There is a separate program for Handbrake which handles batch conversions.
And in the thread you mentioned I also said to use Handbrake but you being you went off in that thread also so I sat back and said nothing.
As for giving you a straight answer, everything you need to know you can find with Google. (That's how I found it as well in the first place). So NO I won't and don't always give a straight because it's better to teach a man to fish then just feed him one.

You sat back.. "and said nothing".
QED.
It was an obvious thing to tell that struggling DJ, and our world, but no, you kept your mouth shut.
There are too many people who have their own agendas and don't really want to help.

I've mentioned this before, Handbrake and Winff are a bit like Apple v Microsoft..both get the job done. There are more free options, and plenty of paid.
This has been a good thread.
..and yes I've learned a lot.

This might be the reason DVD ripping has troubled me.. https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/play-mp4-on-ipod-shuffle-376927/
Make sure you use Spek. Handbrake may automatically be reducing the audio bitrate below 160kb/s, or even down to 128kb/s so the audio output is compatible with i pod's and other hardware. In Handbrake I set the audio at 320kb/s & 256kb/s (this might be all we need.. aac is good!)...but got an inferior quality.
We need the best audio.
WinFF can achieve high quality, but not using it's basic setting, it needs a little help "-acodec aac -strict -2" or "-acodec aac -strict experimental". The acc codec is now regarded as the default for FFmpeg and has been moved off the experimental listing (in late 2015). When using this addition you can choose your own bitrate, although at it may not be needed in any future builds of WinFF.

Mp4 is a pain.
For those of a sensitive nature Xvid might be a better choice.
I'm storing my named vob's..I don't trust anything related to mp4.
In fact it will not be long before hdd's are large enough to enable a DJ to use vob, they might even today.
..and we can just rename vob as mpg.
Simple and quick.

You are aware that Xvid is a video codec, implementing the MPEG-4 Part 2 (Advanced Simple Profile) specification.
MPEG-4 Part 10 (Advanced Video Codec), also known as h.264 is simply the successor of this (less data required for the same visual quality)
AAC (Advanced Audio Codec) is simply MPEG-2 Part 7
VOB is MPEG-2 video I believe
"mp4" as a file extension is used to specify the container format (MPEG-4 Part 14), but it can contain all sorts of audio, video and other data encoded in any codec you want (including xvid, mp4 avc, aac, mp3 etc...)
All of these are standardized by the same committee basically.
If you don't like the mp4 container because it finds it's origins in a format designed by Apple, I'm not sure why you like the container most commonly used for Xvid more, as it's AVI, which is developed by Microsoft.
If politics rather than just quality/compatibility are your main concern, I would recommend moving to the webm or mkv container, with VP-8 or VP-9 as video codec, and Vorbis as audio codec.
Results should quality-wise not be too far off what you can expect of h264/aac, but you are using open formats that may be free of patents.

All is not what it should be Adion. If I set an audio bitrate in a piece of software thats what I expect.
I don't expect Handbrake to automatically reduce that bitrate to gain compatibility with a wide range of hardware.
WinFF also seems to cap the bitrate unless told otherwise.
