Your statement doesn't make any sense ?????

There are many many differences, not just between major releases but individual builds. As a forum member for the last 9 years you should already know how it works.

As a rule of thumb you should always use the latest public release unless you're being stubborn or have a specific reason not to do so.

All of them existed:

7.4 released 2010-10-12
7.4.7 (final v7) released 2016-01-05
8.0 released 2014-05-11
8.1 released 2015-11-20
8.2 released 2016-06-24
8.2 newest pubic build b3798 released 2017-07-02
8.2 newest early access build b3846 released 2017-07-30

The biggest new feature in v8.2 when it as released a year ago (2016-06-24)) was the pad pages that let you have total control over how the 2x8 pads on most new controllers works, and the option to changes it in a sec

It was there for those who hadn't updated to 8.2 although I guess they will be merged at some point.

Because not everyone is using 8.2

Some people are still running VDJ 7 for goodness sake! That's why the VDJ 7 forums are still open.

There are even occasional posts from people that are using VDJ 6 or 5.

For those who are working as a bard in a medieval castle: their forum is closed...

Forget the advanced features. Do you have any idea of how many fixes and repairs have been done, since 8.2 alone, and some are still using 7? You can use what ever you please, and there are still forums open for your version. I am only interested in moving forward and can't remember the previous versions. To me it's like trying to get parts to my favorite appliance. It gets harder and then they are gone, and it's time to get a new one. All the time and money I spent on the old one, I could have bought two new ones. That's just me.
