GAME CHANGER!
Virtualdj 2018 can now work with external ASIO soundcards on a cheap USB hub for windows 8 and 10 (not tested for MACS yet)
The cheap dj solution is finally here for DJs that need multiple ports and save CPU memory use! You can run external ASIO soundcards, USB memory sticks and or USB hard drives for music storage on the same hub.
Perfect for DJs that need multiple USB ports, it means you can NOW use those cheap Chinese 10 inch windows tablets with only one USB port! Leave the big expensive monster computer at home!
( just make sure the tablet is minimum 2GB ram with an INTEL processor chip and clock speed up to 1.8G memory)
With the new VDJ 2018 upgrade ,you don't even NEED to waste money on those new expensive "MIDI hot cue button mixers" like Pioneer S9 and RANE 62/72 , just run default skin in tablet mode. Touch screen everything you need including effects and playlists Tested it with all the different DVS vinyl (including TORQ) 2 turntables and external mixer, also done the 2 dj cd players and even a controller, MIDI mapping/presets download is Childs play simple.
Bravo Virtual DJ well done! You guys deserve a national holiday for this one alone!

Not true virtual dj 8 and earlier versions could not use USB hubs that are not active to run ASIO soundcards AND separate external USB hard drives and USB sticks at the same time. I have personally tested them myself. Trust me now it works no problem with the new upgrade. Especially in terms of using cheap tablets, used all the different settings, no luck but now it definitely works .

I'm not crying about bringing in a 9lb laptop, when I'm bringing in 85lb subwoofers. What happens when that one little USB port on your tiny tablet fails? I like to be prepared when it hits the fan.

With a less than 2lb tablet of less than 150$ it's of course very affordable to make sure you have a backup.
Anyway, as much as I'd like to take credit, whether a USB hub works or not should not have anything to do with VDJ.
If it works with vdj 2018, it should work with vdj 8.0, 8.1, 8.2 or even 7.
Whether it needs to be powered will depend on the devices you plug in to it, and the power the laptop/tablet/computer you are using can supply.

A Man And His Music, seriously playa, it works, even tested it on a mega sound system (50,000) Watts BTW , if you need a hook up with gear and you are in the Toronto area, let me know we run a pro audio shop, we have done stadiums, concert halls, boats, major shows in Toronto and Caribana floats, we have been doing professional sound going over 25 years.
Anyway back to topic, the USB hub in vdj 2018 does work like I said. Try it yourself I did not have any problems and I ran it for hours on a 10inch tablet.
The tablet was only loaded with vdj 2018 program the ASIO driver for soundcard and 4 separate skins downloaded. The USB hub had the soundcard, and the USB storage sticks as well as an external USB harddrive. This way the tablet is not overstuffed with your music and runs smooth and not crashes or overheats and still get full access to your music.

Adion, the man, the legend ! You pretty much made vdj 8 and vdj 2018 the improvement it is, I see a lot of Djdecks.be in there but....
2 things that need to be done
1) virtual dj for ANDROID ( full DVS for external turntables and mixer, or cd players or controller )
2) perfect exact copy of clone deck feature (like SERATO)
I don't know what SERATO does with noisemap or what ever it is but their "instant doubles" (same as "clone deck" in VDJ ) is the industry standard for juggling double copies of the same song. It is an exact clone of the original song with no sticker drifting even the exact same position of the sticker marker on the control vinyl just like using two copies of real vinyl with stickers on them. Even if you needle drop the position is in the exact same spot!!!
Just to let you know in my opinion that is the ONLY thing that SERATO has over VDJ . While we are on the subject does VDJ have needle drop to different cue points?

One word, SERATO calls it "sticker lock" on instant doubles. Virtual dj needs their version of it on clone deck.

Strange?
I've been using The Novation external soundcard for years even with VDJ 7. I has an Hardrive and Controller connected to the Built in Hub.
Before I had the Novation, I used a Numark DJIO external Sound Card connected to a cheap Powered USB Hub, that also ran an external HD and old Numark DJ2 controller with VDJ 6 and 5.

When using an external powered hub, I used to have issues connecting a USB drive or iPhone (for charging) to ANY of the USB ports when VDJ was running.
Didn't matter if I connected to the spare USB on the laptop, or a spare on the hub. It used to cause things to slow down for a sec.

Oh yea Apple is real particular. My boss got us iPhones for work but we always have to use my personal Android phone. It works with everything including charging.
I never would have thunk.
