Topic: VDJ quiet against serato, USB on pioneer mixer B2B sets
When doing B2B sets on an a9 mixer and CDJ3000s, I’ve noticed that the volume and dynamic range on VDJ is a lot quieter when compared with another DJ on serato also plugged in, or another DJ on USB. I crank up the master put volume all the way on VDJ, turn off the limiter, and increase the trims to come close to the others. It’s really noticeable when going between DJs in the same set.

Is there something I’m doing wrong? Settings I need to change? I have the mixer set as my audio interface.

What should I set it to? Right now, it's on "Default."

On default it should be the same or louder compared to other software.
You could check the ASIO control panel, in case there's an option for the level there

Let's start by telling us how you are connecting the the A9 / CDJ3000s? USB into each device?

For instance, my preferred way to use a CDJ/DJM setup is to only ever connect into the CDJs.

Effectively making them a set of HID controllers and keeping the input switch on the mixer to the line/CDJ and not switches to COMP/USB input.

This give me the ability to use the DJM as if i was using USBs on the CDJs and has the added benefit of using all the onboard effects.

I never get a quiet signal, except for the odd occasion where VDJ turns down the autogain on the channel in VDJ itself.

Connecting the mixer via USB will not change how onboard effects work. On the contrary it has the potentional to improve them, since VirtualDJ passes the BPM grid (CBG) of the song on the mixer, and the mixer now has better accuracy on applying beat effects.
Also, when the mixer is connected, VirtualDJ KNOWS which deck is on air. This improves functions as deck load protection, marking a song as played, changing filter / browser /linked tracks suggestions immediately e.t.c.
So, as described on the VirtualDJ guide here https://www.virtualdj.com/manuals/hardware/pioneer/clubsetup.html it's always advised to CONNECT the DJM with VirtualDJ.
