Topic: Visuals Help!
I am fairly new to VDJ, having spent years using Serato. With Serato, visuals are simple. I place whatever visual mp4s I want in the media crate and when I move from an MP4 song to MP3, the software grabs at random a visual mp4. I am not even sure what they're called in VDJ, so that makes it difficult to lookup. Any help is appreciated.

Thank You. Are there other places to get shaders from besides Shadertoy? I looked in the forum and people are suggesting sights where you download, but not sure how you add them after.

They are called Shaders in VirtualDj.

There are a few options for video display when using an audio only track.

Take a look at the Video Mixing part of the user manual here:

So I think ShaderToy both describes an An API for shader creation as well as hosts already implemented shaders as well which are accessible through their API (see the same link).

VirtualDJ seems to only really have direct integration with ShaderToy (that info was in the User Manual link I supplied earlier under the Shader section (this is the link here)

VirtualDJ uses the viewer URL of a shader hosted on Shader Toy to download the shader (probably through the access API) and then compile the shader for future usage.

So yes, the place you would be looking is only shadertoy.com (there might be a way to manually provide shaders from other places but I've (personally) seen it in docs, devs would know more about that). There is at least one VirtualDJ Forum thread where users have already perused and categorized good shaders that you can try.

Another option is Milkdrop. There are enormous numbers of .milk preset files, which are often packaged in bundles and available in multiple places (because it was popular during the "Winamp years").

Ex Atomix staff member Scott (SBDJ) hosts the files on his own site.

Thread Here

That's what I thought. VDJ is superior to Serato in so may ways, but in Serato I could make almost anything into a visual/shader, but i moved to VDJ because Serato video tended to lock up. The shaders are cg and I am forced to use the one site or use backdoor methods. I understand now why some use external means.

If you have mp4's you want to move, simply copy them in a folder, and use 'SlideShow' as video source, and select the folder with your mp4 visuals there.

@GroovinDJ is Milkdrop Windows only (thanks for the update on that as I didn't know of it)?

I love that idea, the only drawback is they don't automatically switch.

So I was wondering if this was possible (the User Manual makes it seem as if it would only work with images as it doesn't really mention video usage in that section), thatnks for that update as well.

I got the same impression from reading it. Thanks again Adion.

If you select slideshow as video source / audio only visualization, then it will activate automatically when a track with no video plays

It does, but it doesn't transition to another when I play the next mp3s. It will play it out unless I manually hit next. The settings are time based. That's what I was refering to.

Since it are random visuals anyway, why would you want to match a single one to a single mp3?

It's not necessary, I guess I was a bit hung up how it worked on Serato. I liked how the visuals noted the song transition.
