You might want to spend some quality time at your local computer store. I hate to suggest that your current machine will have a lot of trouble with many programs that are less than a year or 2 old.

I had more RAM than that in my 486DX-system which ran at a mind-boggling 66Mhz... about ten years ago!
It's harsch but it's the truth: you have to upgrade your system... newer versions of Windows have a recommmended minimum of 128 Mb RAM just to get a good performance out of your system.
