I LOVE the beat grid, but is there some way to make it work with the bass only in order to keep from affecting vocals? (Besides loading the song on the other desk at the same time and using the regular equalizer, which is what I currently do...) I tend to like adding extra beats, but it would be nice if there was some way to have the effect plugin work on the bass only.

To add extra beats over your song, you can use BeatBox with option SoundDry "On"
But to be precise, this plug does not select only low frequency
I have been studiying this possibility for few times, but it is not so easy at the moment.

I was just wondering if it would be possible/easy to make a similar plugin that uses an equalizer or something like that. Thanks for the help though.

I'm gonna have to practice a lot with that beat box. I was looking at it and was having a lot of trouble figuring it out. I'll have to take some time later and read through your tutorial again and do some experimenting.
