Good point DJderricke, and Niems... I shouldn't have said the whole thread was a waste of time... What I was annoyed by was ConQuest's attitude -- insulting people, slamming AMD, etc. He could've posted something like, "Hey guys, take a look at these new reviews, looks like Intel is back on top!" But no, he's like, AMD SUCKS! sorta attitude, like an immature little kid, and making fun of people all over the VDJ forum... I was just saying, as much as this topic *does* matter, it's not important enough to make people feel bad over! But, then again, he got our attention! :) So, the news has been spread, however unnecessarily dramatically...

I see what you mean Polo, and ya, you cant really put either brand, whether is be amd vs intel, or even pioneer vs numark vs denon ect, to certain shame just because of some new product that one of them comes up with that makes the others' stuff look midrange.
Sooner or later, the latter company will come up with something better that will in turn overtake the next. If this cycle did not happen, then there would be a company monopoly; for example, no one would buy amd cause they 'sucked' and were never better than intel or whatever.
In DJ terms, this could be something like the introduction of the 1000mk3's or 800mk2's, making them look like the benchmarks for CD players in terms of VDJ timecode options; but maybe the new iCDX will make them look like midrange products for vdj, never know. (and not to start any flames here, i am stressing the pioneers for TC use as apposed to cd use, and im sure we can all assume pioneer still hold considurable gain over numark in this department).
And the claim by ConQuest that amd 'now sucks' cannot be justified, for example, when numark introduced the CDX, it made traditional vynil players look redundant in terms of lugging vynil around instead of cd's for a player that probably feels and reacts exactly the same to the older tech but plays cd's instead. But this in turn by no means assumes that the 1200's or now DEAD as the topic title describes the subject. As long as the market for older technologies exists, it proves to us that they are usefull, otherwise they would be unprofitable.
There will still be those people who will stick to their AMD's even if intel holds the benchmark (for the time being). Just like you may stick with your 1200's or ttx's even though there is a "better, newer" technology avaliable, being the cd players. I guess it relys on your preference, and as long as that exists, you will find people buying from every different company, which brings about the diversity.
This kind of topic can exist for pretty much any type of product, and it comes down to choice, whereas the straight facts and numbers will only play on the oppositions mind, who will in turn make something that the competitior will worry about.......

Very well put Niems! It's like a see-saw, things go back and forth, each company will continue to outdo each other, it's healthy competition, and makes technology as a whole get better and better... Concluding that one or the other is superior, and will always remain so, is silly... And insulting people over it, that's just crazy.

Holy irrational jingoism Batman!
I'm excited that there's a new, faster processor available in a reasonable price bracket, but I can't see how that's any cause to go nuts on everyone. I hardly think that AMD is going to "die" anytime soon... not everyone buys a processor based on it being the fastest available... no doubt AMD will still be able to offer a much better price/performance ratio than intel, which is generally more important to the vast majority of consumers.
Ironically, AMD bought ATI... so if ATI is going to blow away NVidia (note the spelling), then that means that AMD is definitely going nowhere. It takes a lot more for a company to go under than for another to release a product that performs better, by the way.
I think we can all agree how lame it is, going around insulting people because a new CPU core was released or the like.

I created this thread for all the AMD fanboys on these forums who were hanging on to hopes of glory from yester-year and not paying attention to the FACTS [aka pre-production benchmarks] that I was providing about the new Intel Core 2 processors.
All i got in return was "Everyone knows that AMD chips perform better, run cooler, cost less[?!!!], blah, blah, blah.
This was dedicated to the truly clueless AMD fanboys who think that "rooting for the 'under-dog' [AMD] is in some way romantic and makes them a morally upright person.
Guess what? If Intel has been getting it's butt kicked by AMD the past couple of years [and it has], then who is really the under-dog? Think about.
It has nothing to do with big company vs. small company, it has to do with better product. If any of you guys want to romanticize yourselves, then stop supporting 3 times convicted [by 3 countries in less than 5 years] microsoft. Use Mac or Linux. You know, those OS's that actually don't blow chunks like winBlows.
Yeah, I didn't think so.
This thread is for all the guys talking out of various holes in their bodies and not using their minds. Mis-information and marketing propoganda does no one any good, but that's not to say that it doesn't work.
That's why there are so many more windows users than Mac or Linux users. Exclusivity and the ability to sort through BS is limited to a much smaller portion of the computer using population, and we like it that way.
Although the windows to Mac switcher movement has now reached a "tipping point", from which there is no return. Regardless of the hundreds of thousands already known switchers [soon to be millions, MARK MY WORDS], Apple will STILL provide the BEST PLATFORM AND COMPUTING SOLUTION: Mac OS and Macintosh computers. As well as other dominant products like the iPod and iTunes. . . anyone wnat to bet whether Apple will break into other markets and stomp out inferior competition in them as well in the next 6-12 months? Mmm... okay. I didn't see all the "clueless fanboys" everywhere, but I guess I didn't notice because I don't care that much. I don't know what kind of war you're talking about... but there are a few going on right now where surely some of our own friends and family are genuinely losing their lives.
I'm sure MacOS has some great benefits and advantages over Windows, but there's a certain philosophy behind it, and perhaps it doesn't suit everyone's purpose the same. I guess when it comes down to it, in my opinion, Windows is the most popular operating system because Microsoft employed a lot of skillful market manipulation to maneuver themselves into a monopoly type position.
I'd say that probably the biggest advantage of Windows (which can be a double-edged sword) is that its broad user base ensures that it has the most software and tools available... and of course, PCs generally seem to be less costly to buy and repair... a lot more techs can competently work on PCs than Macs. I wish that Macs had more of a user base (or at least a bigger one that can program and write software) because it'd improve that situation, but of course, it has the negative effect, on the PC, of there being so many virii and spyware available. Someday I'd love to buy a Mac, maybe when I've got a fair bit of extra money to afford one. It might be a more stable solution for a DJ computer.
I get the jist of what you're saying though. It's silly to be a fanboy... In the words of Grandmaster Flash: Don't do it!

Israel hits Lebanon in new raids
Israeli jets have launched fresh attacks on Lebanon as troops battled Hezbollah fighters in the south.
At least 14 civilians have been killed in the latest raids, which hit southern Beirut and parts of the east and south, cutting off the city of Tyre.
An Israeli soldier has been killed in the southern town of Bint Jbeil, while Hezbollah fired more rockets at Israel.
The action comes a day after at least 15 people were killed in Israel in its deadliest day so far of the conflict.
Diplomats are battling to find a workable truce amid the escalating violence.
UN diplomats are due to meet again in New York to try to overcome Lebanese opposition to the text of a ceasefire, while Arab ministers are to discuss a strategy on the truce in Beirut.
More than 900 Lebanese, most of them civilians, have been killed in the conflict, the Lebanese government says. More than 80 Israelis, most of them soldiers, have also been killed.
The current conflict was sparked by the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah on 12 July.

That is so not true, AMD processors (like Athlon 64) are very cool, some models works below 40c, and Sempron is similar. Intel is a lot hotter (just see what coolers they use these day to cool down Pentium or Celeron, and their size!). Mobile Centrino is even worse, I don't know how will they survive in a club with a lot of heat.

DJ-ALF is absolutely correct! AMD chips are KNOWN for running much cooler than Intel, accross the board, no matter which chip class/family. This is precisely why AMD is slowly beating the CRAP out of Intel in the desktop marketplace, and convincing major laptop makers (Dell, Lenovo-aka:ThinkPad, etc.) to add AMD to their new lineups of laptops coming in the very near future.

Intel's MID-RANGE Conroe processor is wiping AMD's HIGH-END FX-62 all over the floor with nearly half the power/heat dissipation [65W TDP/Intel Conroe vs. 110w TDP/AMD FX-62] and at half the price, less than $600/Intel Conroe vs. more than $1,200/AMD FX-62.

There's no real need for a summary. The benchmarks tell all. Intel's Conroe simply outmuscles every currently available CPU. Would you buy an AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 now? AMD must be thinking that K8-L can't come soon enough.

The war against corporate corruption and illegal business practices by convicted entities like microsoft. 3 convictions by 3 countries in less than 5 years with more on the way. Internationally illegal anti-trust business activity is responsible for hundreds of thousands, if not milliions, of families and lives being ruined because of smaller, innovative companies being strong armed and having their trade secrets and products stolen by larger, un-innovative companies like microsoft.

You're preaching to the choir on this one "supacon". Don't be foolish in thinking that I'm in ANY way comparing microsoft's criminal activity to the political corruption of the Bush administration and the VERY real destruction and death that that is causing.
Both are illegal, and need to be held accountable. The existance of one does NOT negate the existance of the other.

EXACTLY! NOT because it's "better". That "skillful market manipulation" you speak of is the illegal anti-trust activity that has, and continues to get them convicted by entire countries for the irrepairable damage that microsoft has caused that countries citizens and their companies, small or large, and their products and/or services.

All Intel Macs can run windows fully native now, so Macs have MORE software and tools available to them than ANY windows pc. This means all windows software AND all Mac ONLY software like industry leading Final Cut Pro for post-production, as well as countless other applications.

Another de-bunked pro-windows excuse. Apple won't even compete with the low end, bargain bin junk that Dell, Gateway, Acer, and others put out because they don't have to. The main maintain a higher level of uality control than any of those pc manufacturers.
Their low-end stuff is like cheap fast-food that'll "get you buy" for the moment, but that you're gonna have to buy again in 1/3rd of the time that you would have bought food from a quality restaurant.
I'll get back to the rest of this later.

Glad you are back ConQuest! I didn't say that AMD is better than Intel, but you must always consider prices. You can build a good CPU, but if you don't have a good price, you are doomed. I mean, all this AMD vs. Intel crap war is pointless! Do you know what is CELL CPU? IBM, Toshiba and Sony teamed together do create this unbeliavable CPU with 8 cores! But you know what? They install Cell with 7 cores in Playstation 3 because of a yield (many CPU's are malfunctioning in production) which builds the price high! And I heard next year someone will make a processor with over 40 cores??? Everything can be done, but the price and consumers decides what's better, not me or you.
I hope that prices will go down so we can all buy dream machines :)

rofl conquest, nice essay!
Seems you have a lot of pride at stake to make a comback like that :D
I dont see the point in this thread with AMD vs intel. Think bout it, the products mentioned in this thread are going to be old news a couple months down the line, why we wasting time again??
And yeah, lets get into the REAL world here, such as political issues being more important. This other stuff is just like, electronic stuff thats like, not really used that much, unless you have no social life lol.
Besides, im sure there is a fanboy forum on the products' respective websites. Us DJ's care not for hardware so much as having a party and fun! Computer Hardware is not fun, i dont like it cause it gets old and hardly gets used by VDJ. The DJ hardware however :D well, that lasts much much longer than a processor. processors are just like, random square things that you never check. If you want something to rave about, save up for some hands on equipment.

I wouldn't want to give the impression that people on here are Mac Haterz. :-)
In my case I'm totally indifferent.
A computer is a computer to me as long as it works. And mine does work with VDJ without a hitch.
I love music and the computer is a tool to dj without breaking my back carrying records.
After 32 years of DJing and carrying my gear up fire escapes, up steps, through hotels, through university corridors, in small lifts, etc I want an easier life.
Virtual DJ is without doubt the best software to use IMHO.

I'm with you. After 38 years, been there and done that. It's has been so sweet to be able to use this great software, for the past year. I don't worry about what somebody else is using, or which club is using what. How does what Joe Blow is using in Club Do Do, affect my bottom dollar. I am working now, making money now. I mean right now, as I type this. I'm not sitting around waiting for the next big thing, I have been using it for the last year. But wait, there's more. It is getting better as we speak. Now what can you say about AMD chips ;)

I hope Intel will go on this way... it's famous to sell expensive chips, maybe this is the right time to break its "rule"? I hope this!

JeremK, that is obvious intel propaganda, you only have to see the picture of the cpu to realise that.

THIS ISN'T INTEL PROPAGANDA
It comes from a very serious french magazine. They test graphic cards, CPUs, sound cards ...
And the month's special article/test was about the new Intel CPU. That's why there is a Core 2 Duo picture.
6 Months ago they had the same article but saying that AMD had better CPUs than Intel.

Ok that's cool, it's just nice to have sources. Usually I check things online and can see that Intel seem to have this generation by far, but these graphs don't have pictures of the product on them, I suppose I can see why they've done it with the magazine which is limited for space. Sorry for jumping to conclusions.
