prelistening , as far as i know only is ment to work on a prelistening window unless you have an mk2
i may be wrong but there u go :)
2. try lowering the proformance tab :)
3. dito , + try to refesh your memory while mixing
you can get free tools to do this :)
4. dito
5. a good ram clear should solve this as 512 is quite small if you think about it , maybe you should upgrade?
aslo try optimising you computer for long periods of mixing
this ace free tool
www.theorica.net/gamexp.htm
will help by optimising your settings , to boost your speed to the highest possible for your pc
this progam
www.theorica.net/safexp.htm
safe xp will help you analsise and terminate any unneeded services and processes which might be slowing your mixing down which are part of windows .
hope this helps!
need any more help add me on msn - admin@skyfxlmedia.com

Hello, I use to have the legal version of vtdj 3.4 and it work wonderful on my Dell inspiron 5100. I have 1280mb total. Now I received the new verfsion of vtdj 4.0, even after i have changed the configuration of it to make it work on my laptop after about hour to two hours worth of use the the program freezes on me. when that occurs the only way to get the program to work is to reboot the pc. That could be annoying while you are djing a party. Please work deligently to find out where the bug is and fix it. Make the software universal to work on any pcs like the vtdj 3.4. I am waiting for a solution! thank you in adavance!

its not a bug as such your pc is finding it hard too keep up
try lowering the proformance tab
and refeshing the ram when u can.
its like with any thing if you play a game on your computer for a long time the ram will fill up and proformance will drop.

if you are doing something consistant (like mixing songs of the same length oen after the other) the memory use should not increase, if it does this until there is reduced performance your applications (and ultimately your OS, probably XP?) is not recycling memory properly (memory leak) use of ram should no up and down not up and up,
you get me? :P
you get me? :P

yes i have optimised my computer, and done it again with gameXP and safe XP. The proformance tab is set on fast, and I have uncheked the safe check box as somone wrot abote...
And witn 10-20% processor load and 150Mb unused memory dropouts stil happens!
And it have never happend in VDJ 3.4 even with music playing with advansed timestretch on both decks on the same time!
And 3.4 is still working fine! have 3.4 beside 4.0 so i quckly can switch over...
Soo... the problem is not me or my computer.

No, its a combo of both, or we would all be having the problem, I have two systems here with 4.0 on them, both play for hours without a hitch, or hickup.
exactly what do you mean by "Dropouts" a quite patch where the music mutes, then continues, NOTE MUTES, but keeps playing, like turning the tv volume down for a moment, then back up.
OR
Pauses for a moment then continues from where it was paused.
OR
Stutters, where you hear the same 1/2 of a second of sound for a moment.
Does this only happen after 4 hours, and not before?
I agree that 512 MB of ram is a bit low, but I have run VDJ with this amout with no problems.
TIP,
Try shifting your music to you onboard drive for a night, and see if it happens there. I suspect that your extternal drive could be a problem. As there are many things between the drive and VDJ that can cause problems..
Drive -> Drive Power Supply -> ISA to USB Converter->USB Cables and plugs -> Perhaps a USB 1.1 USB port -> USB sound sharing USB Bus with Hard Drive -> USB Power settings -> ...
