Hey,

I'm thinking of getting an external hard drive to plug into my lap top. Was wondering what everyone else uses or what products I should be looking at?

Thinking of around 40 - 80gig HDD?

I would go with seagate HD's. They are top notch and now come with a 5 year warranty.

I got it in a small suitcase/flightcase (hard cover) with the hercules controller when traveling back and forth... it got those soft walls and stuff inside (dont know the english word for it... foam? or spunge?)

So its safe ;)

If you want an external HDD for your labtop i would advise you to buy a case with USB2 and firewire and then buy a HDD, in france buying a 160GB external all-in-one (case+HDD) is 180€ minimum, buying the case and the HDD apart is 100€ (75€ for the HDD and 25€ for the case) and it works perfect. If you want to pay double price for an all-in-one device then free to you.

lej78480 is right. This solution is less expensive and works as well. You can also buy a bigger HD in the future and change in the box.
