First you must know CRT is heavy, where LCD is quite lite.
The colors with a CRT screen will be better than with an LCD.
But now the LCD technology has improved, and i'm soon going to buy a new screen because my CRT is too heavy to bring on mobile disco.
The best is to take an LCD screen that has less than 16ms response and more than 300:1 luminosity

I have used a 17" Hercules Prophetview 920 w/ DVI for all my use. Today it is old, but it is top quality in my eyes since it was released 3 years ago. Agree on color quality. Today's screens are reaching the same quality as CRT.
Many Samsung displays are really good. Samsung 913N for instance. Nearly CRT color quality.

Other very good LCD screens are Viewsonic (quite expensive), they have a good time response and high color display. They can also turn by 90° to have portrait or landscape view.

You can get some really nice TFT's if you wanna spend the money that is!
I use a 17" Viewsonic TFT, I use it for Games, VDJ, Movies etc....no probs
You wanna look at the response time for the TFT's, th elower the number the better...
For games etc you want something like a 8ms response time or less. Anything higher you have the possibility of games and movies "ghosting"
