Is there a way to sort files in a virtual folder other than by tag headings. I want to create a folder with files from say a decade and sort them by popularity much like a playlist.
Or do I have to use playlists for that?

How do you measure and record popularity? Can't you just use one of the fields

As I thought. I'll have to use play lists to keep them in order. It's kind of like a top 40 list in descending order that I'm after.

As loco says, you could use (for example) the Track tag field to enter a chart position and then sort via that field in the VDJ browser.
Alternatively (if you already use Track for CD track numbers) you could create your own unique "string", enter it into Field1 (aka User 1) and sort by that.
Example: use the string 80schart and append the chart pos e.g. 80schart01, 80schart02 and so on.
