I was experimenting with POIs on VDJ8 and I realized that you can't set negative values to them anymore. That is a problem when the track sound starts immediately and you've set some seconds of fade length in Automix mode. I tried to set it manually at the database.xml but it also didn't work: the program seems to be using 0.000000 for the value instead.
That function used to work flawlessly on VDJ7 but now it's broken.

A POI can be stored before the track's start.
Are you using the latest version ?
There was a "bug" in the past that would prevent a POI to be stored before the start of a track
