It was a 2.4ghz Intel core 2 duo with a benchmark of around 1600..the 4 core i5 here has a benchmark just under 8000 lol.

I doubt you've seen a laptop like it for a long time..it still works well. More laughter.
I've had to watch things quite closely. That has done no harm.

You were involved with a thread related to it and windows updates !
It was Win 7 not 8..sorry.

The problem with Win 8 on another laptop was trying to get the updates to Win 8.1 which seemed almost impossible.

All my laptops now run Win 10 and well!
Even the laptop dinosaurs (they started out running Vista, 1gb memory, 2ghz Celeron cpu, and a 120gb hdd. I used to have plenty of time to make tea!) which are not quite extinct.
I'm quite proud that they run so well!

I'll be giving Beatbreaker a heart attack..

Windows updates are problematic in all their systems except Win 10, and maybe 8.1 if you can get it!.

I try hard to nail what's causing the odd behaviour using WASAPI.
Here is latest findings, hopefully this will give a hint what's going on.

1. Start up MCX8000 connected to PC through USB3 port.
2. Start up PC
3. Launch VDJ (build 3696)
4. Start up a song playing.
5. In a minute, drop outs will begin to be heard and audio will degrade, 10 seconds later it's all silent.
What is worth to mention now is:
Pre-fader VU meter on MCX is working normal.
Master VU meter on MCX is zero
MIDI still works, all buttons are responsive on MCX changing faders and functions in VDJ. etc etc

In audio settings it all looks normal:
44100Hz, 32bit, 4 chan, 529 samples

At this point, I simly restart VDJ without doing anything else.
Everything repeats according to above steps 3-5.
So just by restarting VDJ, I get another minute of full working audio.

Now I change USB port on PC where the MCX is connected to, restart VDJ (MCX not powercycled)
Now ladies and gentlemen, it all seems to work fine, at least for 10 tracks I played in a row during testing.

So, by changing USB port one time (does not matter from which to which) this will make WASAPI work.

I also tested this sequence:
1. Start up PC.
2. Launch VDJ.
3. Start MCX8000
But this made no difference.

Now there's time to give me advice what to test further!

32bit thats high..I thought 24bit was the highest commonly used. Can you drop back to 24 or 16 bit?

That might even eat a i5 alive!

..and you need the windows performance monitor going to keep an eye on cpu and memory usage.

Where?

Good question..what makes you think it's 32bit (wasapi). 16bit might be more suitable.

I have not got Win 7 anymore.

That's what VDJ reports in the audio settings.

Strange. Denon advertise the MCX8000 as having a 24 bit / 44.1 kHz audio interface.

Maybe that's your issue.

It will depend on the driver. Anyway that doesn't matter. It doesn't use any more (measurable) cpu to produce 16/24 or 32-bit samples.
32-bit is chosen by some drivers because processors are more optimized to work with 32-bit than with 24-bit. (So of the 32-bit practically only 24 are probably used in the DAC)

Did you manage to try the same with exclusiveAudioAccess set to no btw?

On a ddj sx using wasapi only the sample rate 44.1 khz and latency 11ms is reported?
There is more 4o x ??

If you hover your mouse over the sound card name you will get some longer information.

Thanks Adion..44100Hz 24bit 4 channel 529 samples

I had trouble with wasapi using a ddj sx and an i3 laptop.
It was a quiet pulsing clip clop and pop sound. No..not the sampler.
I try and get it again ...

A little different now..with faders down no pop and crackling but when the music is playing its bad.
Installing Pioneer drivers has change things in wasapi.

Asio is vastly better ..perfect.

I wonder if asio4all would help..it's a long time since I tried using it.
We do need a backup system for asio.

its in control panel goto sounds right click the device in the list then select properties
you will come up with a similar dialog to this in the image

Asio4all seems to work well..however I forced 16bit audio in its settings. What am I like. It sounds good!
It works without forcing 16bit !

That might well sort our problems out Wickedmix !

Actually, I were in that place looking for exactly that in "manage sound devices"
But in my view only 44100Hz, 16 bit is selected
So I guess the "32bit" info comes from the denon driver

What about trying asio4all Mr. Jackson?

Its just a wrapper for the windows drivers..people have been using it for years.
Its not proper asio.

Try is OK, but I need to figure out what makes my system behave like it does now.
And detecting a problem with WASAPI could indicate a problem elsewhere that needs attention, so I would really like to nail this before going further.

Too bad we are all located so far between eachother here. I am sure we would solve the world's hardest problems together over a beer or two. LOL

I'm back on wasapi..the sound quality is rubbish. That's using win10.

With exclusiveAudioAccess set to no it appears to work.
You were correct earlier about changing from steromode to quadrophonic enabled the lost 2 channels.

With exclusiveAudioAccess set to no it appears to work.

same here!

Now I'll go back to Pioneer asio lol

I didn't know the exclusive access setting also affected ASIO.
When set it to yes and using ASIO I get the same kind of drop outs as with WASAPI
