Topic: Headphone volume crackling for no reason
I'm running a Denon MCX8000 with ASIO drivers on the latest public build.

Queued up a track on Tidal and the sound on the headphones cracked on every beat. Did it too with my own files but to a lesser extent as they are lower volume.

Headphone volume set at 0.55 and has been for years. No new VDJ version or Windows updates.

I tried applying the sound config but it never made a difference.

Any ideas?

Have you tried phones on another source? machine jack with vlc or something.

If you set the headphones volume back to 0.5 is it still happening?

Hi Adion,

If I change to 0.5 it reduces the volume and the cracking is less, but if I turn up the deck gain it gets worse again.

Noticed if I select "splitHeadphones" it goes away but I would rather have the normal headphone option.

This seems to be specific to the MCX8000 as I have just tried with the Prime Go+ and there is no crackling.

If you just turn up the headphone volume on the controller it's too quiet?
Just realized you said headphone volume, but I was thinking you were talking about headphonesGain option

Yes the headphonesGain option in settings. Still crackling even at 0.5

Seems to be the software causing the problem rather than the hardware gain knob on the controller.

Surprised that you'd need headphonesGain on the Denon though. The max volume on most professional gear seems way louder than you'd ever supposed to need.

It's always been set that way for years. 0.55 means that the master out on one side of the headphone mix knob pretty much matches the cue volume on the other side.

Can't figure out what changed in the past week or so.

Just set it up again and the issue now appears to be gone. I tried the spare MCX8000 and it's OK on that one too.

I'll keep and eye and report back if it happens again.

Thanks once again for your help Adion.
