I think your notebook specs are fine to run Atomix (I run it on a Dell Insperion 8100 PIII 1.2 Ghz, 512MB RAM, 40 GB HD) And I have heard of people with less powerful systems running it as well.

If the solutions doesn't work correctly, try with an another OS. :(
