"About the light controller.
There is currently two main light software on the market: sunlite and martin lightjockey.
We have just made a deal with sunlite to make our softwares compatible one with another.
We are now in the process of making the same thing with martin.
If you feel there are other light software we should make virtualdj compatible with, please let us know.
PS: this feature will be available in v1.1"
I plan to buy a Sunlite DMX box with their software. What is the status of the development.
Are there also some other VDJ users that will use the Sunlite or Martin integration?
Thanks in advance

I'm sorry for you DJ Ross. Mr Clavel posted this text on 3 july 03 more than a year ago
I have been thinking about the implementation:
It would be nice if the linking was based on tcp ip, just like the multiple instance implementation in VDJ.
In the first version a time syncronisation between the two software packages should be ok. In this case your lightshow would follow the beat of the music.
A more advanced implementation would be an option to set light points (like cue points) in a song. With the ability that you could give this light point a link to a show, cue or sequence. When VDJ reaches this point it will send a message to the light software which will start the show, cue or sequence mentioned in the light point. You could set this up for songs that you are playing regularly. With this option you could create full automated, VDJ controlled light shows
My setup will be
- A dedicated pc for virtual dj, with tft and d-vinyl controller
- A dedicated pc for controlling the light show, with touch screen for selecting shows, cue's and sequences
- Both pc's linked together with a cross cable or switch, for the synchronisation.
- 2 table top cd players, can't choose between Numark, Denon and Pioneer
- 2 SL1200s connected to the d-vinyl controller
Any other idea or questions, please post

it would be a shame to let this briliant idea go to waste

it's a brilliant idea.....
but then it's hard work for my laptop, i can run vdj with no problem now. but when it has to do more then just mix mp3 with vdj, vdj will crash.
i have a demo of "visualdmx" and that is also a cool program.
when i run this prog mu cpu will go up to 100 (without vdj running).
you know what i mean?....

Funny, I'm actually developing an application to do just what you're asking for. The unfortunate part is that I doubt I will have anything to show until well after Christmas. Hoover Dam gave me a pissed off phone call the other day when I fired up all my DMX lights to test with. *laugh* I'll need some beta testers, so if the Atomix guys don't mind, I'll post on here sometime to see if anyone would like to help test when the project is approaching a testale phase.

Not only would I be willing to help you test it on my DMX rig...I'll even make suggestions for features n stuff if you like??
geposted Tue 02 Nov 04 @ 12:51 am
I would also like to help. I currently have some DXM stuff like 4 Martin scanners, 2 strobes, 4 other light effects, 8 spots..
I have also some links to freeware DMX controllers.

So, I see this thread petered out... Is anyone still pursuing a marriage between VDJ and soft DMX controller package?

It is a pitty, but I think we have to wait a little longer.
I agree that some other improvements are more important at the moment as this one, but it seemed a nice feature to me.
I purchased sunlite some weeks ago. It is nice software and it would be amazing if you could set light points in your vdj songs like described earlier. That in combination with video. then you could sync music, video and lighting...
Maybe some day it will be implemented

If they only implemented full midi in and out it would be instantly integratable into most DMX software. most have MIDI functionality i am told.
Main rig VDJ with midi out 2x M-audio trigger fingers TCV and kaos pad 2 entrancers on each ouput routed through Video mixer
VJ rig with R4 (with live cam feed), milkdrop and vis forge running on Quad head SLI graphics (one for managing vis paramiters) into numark DVmixer with kos pads on effects loop with wet and dry mix.
Lighing rig loaded with martin light jockey with smoke machines, scanners, spots, strobes and most importantly DMX colour coded fiber optic effect
all this trough a 50 Kw PA and projectors all round the club and TFT's in the toilet seats and a massive centerpiece LED curtain massive screen.
can someone pop down to the shops an get us a lottlery ticket

DJ Xeo, nice setup you have ;-) I only would like to change the numark video mixer to a Edirol v4. And maybe the tfts in the toilet sittings are a little to much.

Hey, I saw this topic and if the dev team could realize this with VDJ, it would be great.
A friend of mine has made his own DJ player program in where a full module is implemented to control your lights, including DMX controlled equipment.
You can even store per song a different setting for the lights and this is all stored in your MP3 tags, this is what superstom already explained here in this topic.
And believe me, it works.
For the hardware he is using Velleman kits so if you are a little bit handy, you can make it yourself. (look at the project on his website)
So have a look at his website, download his player (only to see the lights working, you don't need the hardware for it) www.swakke.com
I don't want to make promotion here for his player, as VDJ has much more capabilities and it could never be a competitor for VDJ, it is just for the lights.
But on the other hand, it is a nice product with nice ideas in that could be interesting for VDJ also.
Maybe the dev team can contact him for the code and implement it in VDJ. …..

shows you dont have to be a huge company to implement features like this. i wont use a feature like this but this shows it possible. adding specialist features like this to virtual dj will not be of any use to alot of people and therefor expending rescources pursuing something that is only for a few users seems un-just. however making VDJ compatible with certain key communication standards such as General MIDI would make it compatible with a wide range of products and devices. This would have a far greater relevence to most users and a far greater monetary return.

I agree with Xeo. I don't think it is a good way that a dmx controller is build in VDJ. Let every application do where it is good at. VDJ for mixing music / video and Sunlite or Martin Light jockey for controlling light equipment
Only midi is probably not enough to implement the "light points" like described before. I tighter (network) integration with Sunlite and/or Martin Lightjockey I prefer.
You could set the "broadcast" of light points on or of in the config menu. like you could do with the shoutcast plugin. VDJ is just broadcasting, I doesn't know if a light controller software is listening.
If you don't want to use it, just switch it off. This implementation will not take that much of code or overhead to the application

This can be done iven now with plugin (parser dll .... FX)
:-)
external editor for DMX, and plugin will just read and send info. (depending on xfader pos)
even fading of fx is possible :-)
If vfd could have MAIN plugins, that could be used for DSP dynamics .... light controllers
i think many plugin devs will make some use of it.
Just give us an option....
and i think there'll be more interesting plugins than now.
