Hello,
For a couple of days back I've downloaded the demo version of VirtualDJ v.4.2 so I can get to understand how things work.
The trail works only for 20 days, that I know and I've not reached that date.
I had still a couple of days to work with VDJ.
Now the problem! Last time I opend the program it worked perfectly. now I try to open it again and I get the following message / error:
'Invalid skin file (error line %i in the xml)'
So the program will not start.
I have not downloaded a new skin or changed the one I have. The last time I just played music and tryed to mix some songs together. I've shutdown the program correctly (no music playing and exit by clicking on the 'X' button)
I've tryed a couple of things before putting my question here:
1. Searching for sollutions on this forum AND in the 'Ask a question' section
The last one had no answers at all about this problem and in the Dutch forum one said that it happens a lot with illegal versions (the one I have is a demo, downloaded from this page). Also one person claimed that it could be an error that happens when the computer has no memory to work with, but my computer is a new one with a lot of workmemory so I don't think thats the problem. Also I tryed running the program with no other programs running. Internet offline, startup programs shut down(those I could shut down) but nothing helps.
I even reboot the computer and that also didn't help.
Can anyone help me?
I have the default skin only so I can't try it with another skin, also I think that won't help to. You have to change the skintype in the program and I can't Get in.
p.s. I'm from Holland so don't pay any attention to the bad parts of my English!

Lob, by reinstalling I'm guessing you haven't fully uninstalled the
software, so the skin remained in the folder and wasn't overwritten
in reinstall. Try uninstalling again, and make sure you've deleted the
installation folder completely. It's just a guess though.
Or you can you upload only the .xml file from the .zip of your skin,
so that someone can compare size with their default skin. Since the
skin is included in demo, I don't think VDj policy would mind sharing
the .xml publicly for technical support purpose.
It is indeed strange though that the file has been changed somehow.
I know such errors can occur with the music database which is being
modified every VDj session, but the skin file should be read only...
Regards.

Answer to the reaction of windows XP media center:
I think it is buggy becouse in some games (i'm a gamer to:p) the mouse won't work... when i'm going back to Windows, the mouse is working perfectly ghehe.. but hell that is another problem...
I've looked again to the files and searched every document of VDJ on my computer. I've uninstalled the program again and than reïnstalled and ques what.... the problem was still there.
I didn't understand it, I checked if all the files where gone and they were.
So I uninstalled it again, shut down the computer, a few seconds later restarted the computer and installed VDJ again and now its working again.
I remember what the size of the default skin is. Don't ask why i just do.
The size is now 2.214 kb
When I got the error the file size of the skin = 2.192 kb
So it didn't mach.
I also don't understand why it wouldn't work the first time I reïnstalled it, but it works again and I'm happy about it. Now I can finish my trail version and buy the program in the future!
Thanks for the help!!

the whole XP Media Center and buggy is B.S! I my desktop is a Media Center system and I have never had a problem. Can't explain your situation, but something changed the zip file's XML to generate that error... glad your back and running, look forward to seeing you purchase VDJ, you won't be disappointed.
