killed vdj last night when showing vdj to boss on new lappy after bar had closed, doing fine playing vids until i pressed some button in config when trying to hook up headphones then bam vdj died, fatal error will not go away, uninstalled half a dozen times, tried re-doing sound setup no joy, can someone explain what i did wrong or rectify this fault please...thanks for any help...Tayla

Lappy specs

packard bell sw51
amd turion 64 x 2 dual core tl-50 1.6ghz
512 cache
1024 ram
120gb hard drive
17" wide screen
128mb nvidia geforce 6100
400gb external hard drive(freecom classic sl)still with 314 gb free where all audio & video files are stored

is this big enough for lappy specs or do i need something bigger i was advised that these specs should be okay?

First - were tracks playing at the time you made your changes?

You shouldn't adjust any audio features if you have tracks playing. Majority of those options are 'real time' influences and can create un-expected behaviors. And, after making any audio setting adjustments you should really shutdown and restart VDJ.

Anyhow, you mention that you un-installed and tried re-doing the sound setup? Does that mean you are able to get things working and trying to re-create the problem OR you still can't VDJ to run?

OK, so what are you using as your sound coard? Or, are you just trying to get it to come out the laptop speakers?

As to the directX question, yes you will most likely need to load the latest directX. If it's there when you load it then it won't hurt anything.

have a creative lab sound blaster for decks and use headphone socket for cueing busy installing directx will let you know if it cures it hopefully...Tayla

the vdj operating programme theres an option in vista to change a programme to xp, right click on whatever icon you want to change SELECT PROPERTIES, CLICK ON COMPATABILITY TAB, RUN AS XP, THOUGHT I GIVE THAT A TRY BUT NO JOY bollocks hit caps lock anyway back to you...

Well when it comes to the Vista environment we maybe at a dead end. Don't have it and won't use it.

These tools may help for getting a clean registry - -

http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/download.html?addon_id=2936

Anyhow, back to your problem. In VirtualDJ Config // Sound Setup, let's start with the basics ---
Input - None
Output - Single
SoundCard(s) - Simple
Sound Card - choose either the 'Primary' or your 'Creative'

do things work - add track to deck, press play, get sound?

-- Will be back in about an 1.5hrs -- got to run an take my daughter to dance class....
But as I said in my first post, make when you make changes you should close VDJ then run it again to see if the changes helped.

-- be back shortly...

I would have to say that it sounds like the drivers got corrupt - possibly - for the sound card.
Try uninstalling and re-installing your sound card. btw, do you get any sound from any other applications or even windows media player?

yo cstoll

back in, short night tonight, thought we cracked it when i was at home, told the boss was gonna play round with the new programme so he had to expect the unexpected and was fine with that, when i came to load vdj came up with corrupt file error would'nt let me proceed with it so just got on with other programme, no sweat, i expect these things with something i'm not used to i've got that "don't let that programme loose anywhere near him syndrome", as i said before it won't get me down just gotta get it sorted will do a reinstall tomorrow & see how that goes. Just to pick your brains when i installed vdj for whatever reason don't know how, screwed up my bpm in mixmiester so i'm going through them and correcting best as i can when thats done in next couple of days i intend to use database updater to pick up my idtags & put them into the comment file as i tend to rely heavily on idtags for the different venues i'm at and if it works magic, spoke to skyfxl on this but unfortunately he either gave up on me or lost my thread, is it worth going through this process or hangin' fire until vdj knocks out the pluggin that i've read will be coming through shortly (tried it once on back up lappy and it did'nt work out right in fact big doo doo), you any info on this?...get back to you soon 11.30pm here the other half is callin' and i suppose your sittin down for tea your side of the pond...thanks for the help ...salutations ...Tayla

My suggestion is that since you are going to do a reload use the tools I mentioned above to clean out the registry before re-installing. Also, I would look at the sound drivers again as I mentioned. Reload them as well before you re-install VDJ.

As to your BPM questions - can't help you there. I use VDJ's bpm engine and I adjust those that don't quite match manually when I stumble across them.

Talk with you later... btw, don't do tea but do drink a few beers.

cstoll

Sounds like you are back on track. Next time be careful in your eagerness to change settings.. heehee.

As to your % questions, that sounds about right. Some are more intensive on the processor.
