Topic: VJ bundled with midi controlles

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Hi everybody !

I was researching about all new hardwares solutions (concerning midi controllers). And almost all of them has Traktor bundled as a kind of default software to use or one 'spotligthed' compatible with these hardwares.

Why hardware manufactures are bundling Traktor with their hardwares instead of VirtualDJ ? Looking on some forums, almost people say Traktor is more professional solution than VirtualDJ ? Why ?

Regards,

Luciano.

NuMark Controllers come with VDJ (actually CUE LE)

Hi Lucianomx

There are some Midi controllers packaged with Cue (Numark's branded version of VDJ)
Numark Total Control
DMC2
ICDX

and of course the Hercules Mk2 (which you already have) is packed with an older and slightly limited version of VDJ

I can't really comment on Traktor, i checked out its feature set (quite a while back) and it didnt do everything i wanted/needed, so i didn't try it.
I guess different people just have different requirements.

Thank you all guys.

I didn't know about Numark CUE Version.

But, regarding Traktor vs VJ, I was browsing some forums... and is interesting that inside Virtual DJ specialized forums (except here) several guys that known VJ says and suggest Traktor as a professional solution, instead VJ that is labeled as a amateur solution.

So, I tried ! I downloaded it and... well I don't remember when I looked at an audio software so... poor.

Its GUI is poor, colors are poor, fonts are very big (bold), all its functions seems to be held on a unique GUI (skin). I didn't have time yet to test its audio performance and others features, but the VJ functions are forward to the skins limits.

I don't know why sound specialists and others professionals, post in their blogs (or others types of web sites), comparisons regarding only the default skin of VJ.

VJ unfortunately has a bad behavior, and it some times stops. Very much instable. So, maybe it would explain why some guys say "VirtualDJ isn't a professional solution" for big and real time performances.

Feel free to comment, suggest, teach me, ...

I think we may be able to get you on the right track. First give us your system specs dont forget video card specs and OS you are using.

From what I know about Traktor,
it is distributed by "Native Instruments" a huge music software company.
They make a bunch of programs, most are made to produce, record, edit and add effects to music in recording studios.
Native Instruments was first developing all their programs for Mac's and that may be one of the reasons some people calli it more professional.
The skin is also set more like a production/editing software program and engineers might be more familiar with its set up,
as apposed to doing it like VDJ dose by making skins to look like a real dj setups so people who are new to the program can have a much easier time learning how to use the program.
One of the reasons it's bundled with so many other controllers is because they are part of a bigger company and can get licenses approved faster. Plus they are only giving you Demo Software of a program that only dose simple audio. If you want to get the most of its audio features you have to buy the full version.
Virtual DJ's true Power comes from its ability to do video and do so many professional video effects.
You CAN NOT buy a better way to DJ with video (Hardware or Software) than you can with the full pro version of VDJ or Cue.

You know they say that Pioneer CD-1000's are the professional way to go when playing cds, but I see a lot of pro's out there that don't even touch them.

I've used both and found Traktor much harder to use than VDJ.
I think that in the end whatever program you feel most comfortable with is the one for you.

Hi KregCZ, I think you are right. Of course I'm a suspected guy because I know VJ for many years (6 years I think), but even thus I agree.

Well, some minutes ago I found a software called "Virtual DJ 5.3 Studio", what is that ?

I installed it, and isn't Atomix Virtual DJ. It is a software from "Next Generation Software, Inc.": http://www.vdj.net/

Would be that software a reason to confuse some guys ? Even professionals ? I found it on a lot of places: Try to find it only typing "Virtual DJ 5" on google.

I think Atomix should force to call VJ as Atomix VJ to prevent confusion. All download sites call VJ only by "Virtual DJ". A little bit difference between:
Virtual DJ Studio 5.3 Professional
Virtual DJ Professional 5
