Topic: Couple Questions......

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I just changed over to digital..... It has worked out great as of late. No frezzes or crashes at a wedding. (My biggest fear) Nor have I had any problems with my external HD or laptop.

My first question is, How long does it take to become confortable with a digital setup. My largest fear is HD or laptop failer and I will not have any songs with me. (I still bring my box of CD's because of this fear)
Should I move my "core" libary over to my laptop HD for the "just incase" senario? I do have a back up HD I carry also.
(right now i do not have a backup Laptop.)

My second question is most likely a Noob one.
In CUE/VDJ the songs that have never been played have the little yellow "?" by them. Is there a way I can have CUE/VDJ scan all the songs(over 35k) to get rid of the yellow question mark?

Thanks for all the support while I transfer over to your digital world.

I personally lugged CDs and players around for about a year until I became convinced that the world was not coming to an end (or is it?) hehe. it's pretty subjective. Do it 'til it feels right for you!

If you are apprehensive about your rig, your "core" would give you more of a warm fuzzy if it were on CDs with a player at the ready...Your backup is probably sufficient to put your mind at ease, however. I've never fried a drive at a gig, for what it's worth (knock wood - yep, I'm still scared too!). Ever since I began leaving the urethane at home, I've never looked back tho :)

You can select moderate groups of your tracks, right click and select "analyse" (whatever one you want to use - techno/house, or other music). You could also recurse, select ALL of your tracks and go to bed for the night while VDJ does its work =D

Thanks for the info and words of support.

I'll leave my CD's in the car this weekend.... better than bringing them inside, not as good as leaving them at home...it's a step though.

You're gettin there ;) hehe...

Getting comfortable is something different with each person.
I still have cd's for backup (Soon to be gone). In addition I have 2 shuttle systems. One connected
and the other as a backup.
Once the program is set up for your system you should be fine.
Congrats.

I always "burn-in" any new rigs I plan on using. When I got version 5... i had it run a continuous auto-mix for 24 hours. I felt confident after that that the program was stable enough for live use.

As feeling even more comfortable... I never run a gig without having a hot standby CD or DVD waiting to play in case a blue screen pops up. I have come to accept that no digital or PC technolgy will ever be 100% stable. I don't mind a blue screen one every month or two. But if it happens every over gig or every other week... then thats definitely a problem.

I agree... much like everything else. Nothing is fullproof so always have a back up. I have a back up laptop ( about 6 years old running atomix 1)turned on just in case. I had to resort to it once in a year and half. Most of the time I can reload in a couple of seconds anyway.

Ok here is a gear question....

Is there a mixer (or midi mixer) that can controll the internal mixer on VDJ/CUE?
I want to start recording my events, but I don't want to have to mess around with a mouse click and point mixer.

Another Noob question....

What is the importance of the "side list"? I use the play list on the side to store requested song for the night. It seems the side lists populates itsef with songs...

Also, when using the search function how come it doesn't us the title and artist to narrow it down more?

Example.

I am looking for "Yeah" by Usher.

I type in "Yeah" - There are many songs with the word yeah in the title. I have to scroll through them finding the Usher song i want.

I try to type in "Yeah Usher" and the search comes up blank. Why wouldn't VDJ pull the search words fromt he title and artist, not just one or the other?

I don't know any software that is that intellegent in knowing what exactly you are looking for. You type and it will follow what your looking for for options. Your at a wedding and you want "I did it my way"... How is the computer to know which version you want! Frank, tony, rod, Dean... If you ask me in a request, I would ask you the same question.

You must have misunderstood me. I don't expect the software to read my mind and pull up all of Usher's songs when I type in "yeah"

I want to be able to type in "yeah usher" and have it search the TTITLE and ARTISTS information. It seems to only search one or the other.

I understand what you mean...

Just write USHER* YEAH

USE THE ASTRIX

and it will show ;) IF you have FILENAME activated in search option, AND your files have good convention naming ....

For example :

Usher feat Lil' John - Yeah.mp3

Usher vs Bee Gees - Stayin' Yeah (Mash Up).mp3

etc :)

Thanks!! It should make searching a lot better now!

If you're a mobile DJ you need 2 of everything if you want to garuntee you wont go without 'something', but this is particuarly true if your main system is a laptop/PC, you either need a second laptop or some small CD players.

Well I use CUE and the iCDX players. The iCDX players can be used as stand alone CD players also.

Ideal then, it's also an idea to back-up your database file(s) as well as your music collection, losing either would be a disaster for longer than a night.
