My gig setup is as follows
XPC shuttle barebone
2 CD decks (Numark Acis 9) with timecodes
u46dj USB sound card
x-session midi controller
dac3 controller (backup)
UPS backup
surge protectors
I have been using the CD decks on a regular basis for quite a few months. Two gigs ago while setting up to the Club sound system one of my decks (one week ago) (DECK B) went down (all lights remained on, not activity whatsoever).
I tried switching deck sides power cords. DECK A worked fine on either side. After checking deck was burnt (high electrical surge burning something on themotherboard)
With no time to get it fixed i bought a new (axis 9) (DECK C) on Thursday. Played fine at home. Played out Friday. 3 songs into the gig the new deck stops functioning (all lights remain on). Checked out high eletrical surge again burning something on the motherboard
The merchant got it repaired. Tested.. everything worked fine. I carried my gig sytem out. had it tested inside out.. line ins, backup ups, computer, surge everything is normal. No leaks etc.
Connected it to system this morning. Turn on (all lights remain on) new deck out again.
Never even touched a button. (at home this time). I am assuming that it will be (high electrical surge burning something again).
I am confused now... DECK B and DECK C goes... yet DECK A remains intact and works
on either side, no high surge of any kind i guess. The burns indicate that something may be sending a high surge into the decks...
If that is so... shouldn't it affect DECK A. (deck A works on either side no problem)
If there is some sort of high surge with my power supply which it shows there is not..
shouldn't my x-session, dac3 controller and my sound card be affected.
Is it possible that my soundcard is causing high surges.
I am so use to the CD decks that i dont want to resort to the dac3 as a permanent player
ANYONE............ANY IDEAS.. or SUGGESTIONS??????????

Maybe there is a short or a malfunction in one of these units, since you don't have a problem when you hook them up to test. Have you been plugging this unit into the same outlet? Maybe it only happens to this outlet, when everything is hooked up. I have had some stranger shit happen in my time.

all these incidents have happened in three separate places
just trying to be sure that it is the unit that is doing this
In the first deck (DECK B) i found two screws that did not belong in the deck at all (so that may have been the reason) at least that was what the electronics guy said.
IN the new one (DECK C) nothing was strange.. and it got burnt too... so i want to ensure beyond a shadow of a doubt that the DECK is bad
just bought it spent at least $20,000 Ja on it. So if that is the case the merchants should have it replaced.
If I get it replaced.. would not want to have the same thing happening to a fourth.
Or if i should try a different brand... we are back to the same old story
WANT TO EXPLORE ALL POSSIBLE SCENARIOS
