I know that some of the VDJ crew also quite often use mix mister as your sequencer package so i thought this may of be of interest to you :
MixMeister software ignited the DJ world by merging powerful Digital Audio Workstation capabilities and full-featured DJ performance. MixMeister Control is a hardware control surface for real-time performance and control of MixMeister, or other MIDI-capable DJ software.
MixMeister Control is the only controller designed and optimized to work like a true hardware extension of the MixMeister interface. If you already use MixMeister, you will be performing in seconds. MixMeister Control even comes with a full version of MixMeister Fusion software - the perfect way to get started.

We could have learned twice as much without the prop. When are they gonna learn that for most of us, the equipment comes first.

isn't mixmister a automated software? Why would you need a controller with it?

In answer to your question Jason, Mixmeister can run automatically in a playlist mode or you can do it manually its more of a sequencing studio application than a live DJ software like VDJ.
You can apply FX on the fly make transitions ect
Its explained better here :
http://www.mixmeister.com/products_mmfusion.html
It aslo has the benifit of populating the Key Tag of mp3s.

just bought mixmeister fusion with video.......I gotta tell you.i'm impressed. I'm a big 'automix' guy as I also shoot video at gigs......mm allows me to pre build the very best mixes in studio or build them almost live ie you can work on a mix several songs away and nail it on the headphones. The software needs a bigger pc, i just ran 12 hours with 2nd video screen and it ran great. a few areas not quite as featured as VDJ but for automix its v cool.
;)
I may buy the hardware mixer........did i just waste the money on the software alone ?

The Automix feature in MM is awesome, I wish we could have somthing like that in VirtualDJ, although I don't use Automix, it would be good.
Like the idea of having the ability to increase or decrease the outro/intro of your mix, cool feature.

VDJ and Mixmeister are great for different purposes i use them both extensively and as pointed out they can also be the perfect companion because of the key detection which works super in VDJ.
The MM controller is general midi so could work with VDJ you could use the mix now function of VDJ with the mix now key on the controller for example if you mapped it.
Not at all you get fusion without the video module with the controler so if you want to use video you can just hook up your controler to Fusion + Video and off you go :)

I've been an advocate of automix on these forums......I totally understand the argument of DJ skill vs Juke box BUT MM changes all this, this is no longer a juke box, this give DJ a massive amount of control to nail the best mix every time either in the studio or even live but on the next song in the list and DJ can use creativity to do much more that a good mix, add effects precisely, samples, loops etc. surely, VDJ users ( as opposed to CD users) understand the use of technology to push the enveloppe. I can now do more and focus on creativity vs fiddling with buttons. VDj needs to offer this.
