I have a WD Mybook 500gb Hard drive.
At the club last night, I plugged it up, powered up the cpu and the hard drive did not spin up all the way. the light came on, it would start to spin but then I would hear Click....Click...Click, then it would stop spinning. My cpu had a "found new hardware" bubble.
The Hard drive never spun to the point that the cpu could see it.
Is there a way to save the drive? Is there a way to get it to spin up just 1 more time so I can transfer my music and database onto another hard drive?
Or is it just...GONE...

And I kept saying "I have to back my HD up" but never got around to it.
DAMN.
I got the HD in the freezer now. I'll let it sit in there for a while and HOPE that it contracts enough to let it spin up.
I still hope it's not dead or at least can be revived just one last time for me to TRANSFER all my info.
Any suggestions?

If I can get my tunes and database off of it?
THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO ME AGAIN.
I just am REALLY REALLY wanting to get through this.
Last nights party was something else. I had to use a friends Serato and his HD. He has his crates set up real weird or at least it was weird to me because I had my folders set up the way I had my crates of records set up.
If you have been doing this for a while then you know hard it is to DJ out of someone else's crates. YOU CAN'T FIND WHAT YOU NEED.
I had a HARD TIME last night and will have a hard time tonight.

I've had the same problem with a Lacie enclosure. However, the drive was perfect as it worked fine when I connected it to my computer internally. I suspect that there was a problem with my power supply as if I had it disconnected for a long period of time and then tried it, it would work once or twice.

There are services that can recover data off of the platters but the HD is dead. Check the web for services in your area. This is not something the average user can do but takes special software and hardware knowledge. These services can recover data from equipment that was in a flood or fire. The data is most likely OK it is the bearings that are shot.
There are some great deals out on the web - EBAY!- where you can get a Tetrabyte HD for under a hundred american. Use this for a secure backup in the future. Lots of Luck!

Does it work if the drive won't spin?
Does it work if the computer can't see the hard drive?
Cause my hard drive won't spin and my computer can't see the hard drive.

I know what you mean of loosing a HD. I lost mine but had back it up a month before so I only lost a months worth of effort. That also included a lot of remixes and video re-edits but still makes you upset never the less. The damn thing just sits on my desk waiting for me to come up with an idea to get it up and running again... hopeful thinking I guess.

We have company here in Serbia that recovers data from dead HDD's. I know that most expensive fee is 500 euros if it is hardware defect. Diagnose costs only 20 euros so they tell you how much percent they can pull out for you, so you decide to do it or not. Worth a shot ;)

Look in the back of PC World, PC Magazine, or Computer Shopper magazines. They have services that can recover data from dead drives. I would also make sure the adapter is working correctly, and the connection is OK. I had this happen to a drive, and it was the electrical connection. This is the reason I don't use any of those drives with adapters. I just changed the cord, and let the party continue. I have not backed up my 2 tb drives with video either. Puck that, don't be a pussy, real men don't back up.
Shhhhh,
Don't tell anyone I'm looking for drives to back up, I will deny I ever said it.

Have you tried connecting the drive internally, using the power cable from your PSU and an IDE/SATA connector, the drive may not necessarily be dead.

I may have to crack the case open and try to hook the HDD up internally. I guess if that does not work then I will have a nice paperweight.
Lucky for me, I gave a fellow DJ my HDD about a month ago. I went to her house yesterday and copied her drive. Now I have A LOT of work to do re scanning and re cueing.
