I have been a Dj since the 1980's. I have been a user since the first Atomix. I have been a faithful and true user who proudly uses this product by choice as I have PURCHASED and choose not to use - Traktor, PCDJ, etc.
One thing I will NEVER understand is the lame interface. The best skins to date (as witnessed by the nuimbers downloaded) are Mixlab and Mixstation.
That being said - There has never been an update to Mixtation in over a year. We have now lost DJFormat and apparently all hopes of Mixlab 4.0.
I am not lamenting my loss of donated monies. I am lamenting what i feel the team is losing- TALLENT and insight.
I know we have all been told we can develop our own skins. That is like saying we could all be car mechanics if we studied harder. Some of us have lives and jobs that take us in directions that will make do-it-yourself skinning impossible. That is why we support tallent like Serge or Format. They would also LISTEN to our suggestions and impliment them.
I do not know either of these men. I have no axe to grind. What I do know is what I like and apparently by the download numbers - what the majority of users like.
So, why doesn't VDJ try to give us an interface that we want and desire? I do not need my skin to look like fake records playing....I like the EXTREEM DEPTH and BREDTH that the skin aforementioned offerd. All the cues and timing points, the visuals, the featues up fornt to be used, etc.
In ALL my years here I have NEVER had a negative word about VDJ. That being said....
I feel that I may be seeing the beginning of something bad. A company that may be losing touch with its users.
Please prove me wrong.
A loyal user,
Ronny582

If it wasn't for Matt's Vmix 5.4 skin I probably wouldn't have bought VDJ as I consider the standard skin to be poor. Looks are very important to sales (as Apple have proven time and time again).
The skin is the primary interface for working DJ's and is very important. As the anology in the previous thread, I don't want to buy a sports car and have to service it myself!
Matt has an outstanding talent and I feel he could have been a great asset to VDJ from a commercial sense. A great loss indeed.

I like the little fake records....
That's why I bought VDJ.
IMHO, the best default GUI of any DJ software on the market.
I don't use the User Skins because they aren't made by Atomix.
I bought VDJ from Atomix and that's the only entity I want to deal with.
Just my 2 cents.

FYI:
V-Mix was originially created by DJ-Cyder - a member of the VDJ TEAM!
V-Mix 5 was created and developed by myself and DJ Format with DJ Cyder consulting all the way.
Therefore this skin range was, although not publicly announced, a product of the VDJ TEAM.

One of the advantages with VDJ is its SKINS ;)
Traktor, Serato etc can not be changed skin, you're stuck with what that they made default..
So, with VDJ, one can choose to use any of the great skins made, and if one dont like the default, there are tons of others to choose from ;)
Its as easy as that...
Would call that lame ;) hehe.
If one dont like the default, one can easily use a different one...

Actually vmix the first version was a play on apopsis timecode power skin
http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/2214/TimeCODE_POWER_variations.html
Jpboggis was the first to put a video window in it with his variation here
http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/1409/TimeCODE_POWER_Pro.html
Cstoll did the majority of the code on the first one modifying the direction JP took with his version, however we we not sure what to call it so I came up with the name vmix short for video mix.
http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/1126/V-MIX_1_(Video_Mix_-_Power_User)_1024x768.html
Vmix 2 was coded by me.
http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/1693/V-MIX_2_0_(Power_User)_1024x768.html
and so was 3
http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/1714/V-MIX_3_0_1024_x_768.html
and 4
http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/2134/V_MIX_4_(1024x768)_4_x.html
Vmix 4 I did have a little help from listen2 another skin maker here. Also parts of vmix4 were fixed by Mykel namely the cue style panels.
Vmix 5 took a whole year to make and it was coded largely by Mykel with DJformat doing the graphic work and consulting done by myself and mp3rick. Vmix 5 was the most complex skin ever created for virtual dj, it has the most panels of any skin also many undocumented features. The original design called for three times the panels however we ran into limitations ranging from time to the software skin engine and opted for the current design. That is the story of how Vmix came to be what it is today. Also there will probably never be a Vmix6

A great example of what happens when people work together for a common cause. Not undermine each other for personal gains......
