Hi all I have just had a funny senario at a gig with my RMX locking up... bear with me while I explain, now now this happened twice tonight so I can disspell it being coincidental. I bought a cheap mini smoke machine, the type where the remote is wired and has mains voltage. When I pressed the button, I heard a popCrackle over my speaker (interference/spike on the mains) caused by the switch in the remote. At the same time my RMX locked up and I had to restart Virtual DJ to get things working. Now both the some machine and lights were plugged into athe same double socket. I suspect the RMX is very prone to mains interference and I'm considering running the PC via a filtered supply for my next job to prevent this mid-set. This has happened to me in the past and thinking about it it could well be because of this. I would have expected the computer PSU to have filtered out any spikes. However my RMX is fitted in a rack case with my other equipment, so it may be that things are interfering through those.
In fact I run straight from the RMX to my active speakers, so they may have to be put on 13a Sockets with filters as well!!
I was nowhere new my RMX when this happened on instances, i.e. not touching.
Although people mention static I think it is basically susceptible to any electical interference, static or mains born.
?????? We Will see!....

I had the exact thing happened to me. Except my Rmx didn't lock up.
I now try to always plug the fog machine on another outlet.

Well I have just emailed Hercules technical support about the problem, asking for a solution. I have had my RMX for just under a year, it was purchased from Thomann.de but not sure what warranty they offer. If I get no response from Hercules then I will see where I stand with returning it to Thomann, and I will look at the VMS 4, which is probably a whole new ball game!!!

Well nothing yet from Hercules tech support. Thomann are looking into it for me (thanks Guys! or rather Danke Jungs!)

I don't know, I'd keep the Hercules.

Well I've had replies from Both Hercules and Thomann about this
Hercules suggest using a ground loop isolator between the RMX and other audio equipment, in my case my Alto PS4HA active speakers. However I did point out to Hercules Tech support that my Alto's to have a ground Isolate switch on them.
Thomann.de are great! they give a 3 year warranty on all equipment sold and have offered to take back the RMX for testing/repair and would offer exchange or cash back. Only down side is I'm in UK and they are in Germany so would cost about £38 to return (although they would offer a refund on this!) also I would have no controller for a could of weeks, not what you want at this time of year!
Since I've had the RMX for just under 12 months, I'm going to try the Ground loop Isolators (£4 from ebay new) as they can't hurt, and I still have loads of warranty left on the RMX from Thomann, and I do like the RMX!
see here for tech info on the isolators -
http://www.bcae1.com/glisoltr.htm
and here for general info on ground loop problems-
http://www.trinitysoundcompany.com/grounding.html
You will see from the info that linking every thing to a common earth (especially the mains, which is also potentially dangerous) will not always be best! Well I think that's how it reads!

Hello guys.
I don't know if any of you have ever used this, but since I started using it I have eliminated the "fuss noise" and the ground loops that used to drive me crazy, and I believe it has also help with the ground problems
http://www.trianglecables.com/polarized-grounding-adapter-3-prong-outlet-to-2-prong-plug.html
I used that for the laptop.
Cheers!

Do you still have 2 pin electrics? I know that when I buy some products from the US that they sometimes come with a 2 pin lead.
I can't think of anyone here in the UK that has suffered this way.
PS, Rob
This is old skool.
You will have this with any pa system, simply plug your smoke machine into another socket to your pa
