I have an HP laptop I bought in the begining of 07'. It's an HP Pavillion DV9205US , with home premium Vista , an AMD Turion 64 x2 TL- 50
1.60 GHZ.
Originally came with 1gb of ram and I upgraded to 2gb of ram. I wanted to know if it's possible to add another gig of ram or maybe 2 gigs if possible.
Without having to do any additional upgrades just straight out. I know some of you on here are really talented when it comes to pc's and I figuered you could help me out :)
Merry Xmas!

Bet that up! I really thought maybe, I could add a 3rd gig atleast, it's all good. Thanks for for your help, bro.

Go here and run that scan, its free. It will tell you if there is another option available to you memory wise in most cases.

Thanks for that info Tear em up, I guess im maxed out already. There did'nt seem to be another option. I just feel like i've come to the point again after owning this laptop for about almost 2 years that im ready to upgrade again.
At the time I thought it was perfect for my needs, I did research first. But, now I think an additional gig or two seems apparent for VDJ use.
Don't get me wrong all works well, but sometimes it does act up some. I would say that after so many updates and patches etcetera, it begins to also ask for more power.
I think, anyway im not a computer guru. I just know the basics, so anyway I been watching it overtime especially after the 5.0.7 update. And, it just never seemed as on point afterwards.
I 've tried so many tweaks with Vista turning things off tweaking VDJ to every possibility, I think lol...........
It's just not perfect, seems like I always have to help it out a little to keep both decks in sync. I mean it's not a huge difference but, it's good to know when you want use your smart setting, that it would hold in sync everytime.
So, I figuered before spending alot of money again to try and see if I could add another gig of ram first. Oh well, guess it's time to start thinking about another type of laptop again.

So how would I go about maximizing HD? Do you mean clean it up and defrag? Cause, i've done that already.

Do you use an external hard drive? If not, I would suggest buying one, and moving all of your music onto it. This will free up space on your lappy's internal hard drive, which would improve over all system performance.

No, I don't use an external HD. Maybe you got a point, that would definitly help. Although, im only using right now 60% of my hard drive, that's not too bad right?
geposted Fri 26 Dec 08 @ 9:10 am
No, not too bad, but I would invest in the largest external I could afford if I were you. Actually I have four external hard drives, all identical in files. My music. That way if one crashes, or I drop one, I have not lost anything.

If your C: crashes you are gonna lose your ability to function (no windows) PLUS your music ????????
Don't do that to yourself ! Always give yourself the maximum chance to succeed .....
Having the music separate takes a major load off the C: ...........
some people go to the lengths of putting video on yet another drive and keep that separate from the music ....
always do what it takes , such that when some component of you rig malfunctions or dies , that you have minimized the consequences and have a backup .....

always defrag , clean the registry , update the drivers and direct x , scan for active x and malware
also ........write home to Mom .......
at the top of the topics list in general discussion forum are 4 "stickies " topics that refuse to leave , for love nor money .....
you should read selected guides ......lotsa good info there ... defragging and uninstalling unneeded stuff is fine but it's just a start

also maybe look up how to increase your pagefile. I find that works wonders when using videos. Both of my computers have 2 gigs ( 1 laptop and 1 pc ). Both systems run about 10 - 20% of the CPU.
