Topic: Random Skipping? - Page: 1

Dieser Teil des Themas ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten

I have a very annoying bug, Has anyone else experienced this.

The good side. Virtual DJ works great. video is smooth as a baby's bum. transitions 'n' all. cpu working at 2-4%, loads of excess memory (3ghz)... But...

The bad side. some nights not all, i get a stutter in a track which lasts 2-4 seconds? Completly random? (random songs, random times) and the last gig it happened on i got a skip on song1 song2 song 3 and then song 4 nothing after that all night exept once half hour before the end? and some nights its fine, no problems or skips at all?

All anti virus and scans are off, and nothing else running?

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks.

Hy rob,
do you use vdj only with keyboard, turntable or a controller?
Greetings
Haui

disable your wifi , bluetooth and turn all power management options to never

Also what are you setting in the Performance tab,

My settings are, Slider all the way to "Fastest", Latency on Auto. Both Safe mode and Overclock unchecked.

BTW, you should never really do live gigs with a Demo ;)

I second what chuck said. The skipping became an issue when I upgraded to 5.1. Disabling the wifi solved the problem.

Only use a logitech illuminated keyboard, no wifi or bluetooth on pc and all power options are on never.
my settings are on the preset next one up from fastest safe mode unchecked and the over clock doesn't seem to make any difference on or off.
I haven't got the demo version its just that im at work and don't know my serial number off the top of my head to put into my profile.
Thanks for your thoughts tho.

I had that problem when I tried VDJ on Vista. I just setup a dual boot and have not had the time to test it out yet, but I will this friday.

Good Luck with that jim. Im running xp and Ive done all of the tweaks that everyone has told me. Its so frustrating.

I tried running virtual DJ on my laptop (hp pavilion dv9576ea 2.0dual core 256 memory) on vista to start with which seemed to run ok but i run sonique visuals which vista doesn't like and i got a 'we have to close message' so i put a dual boot on my laptop and it run virtual dj really badly in xp so hence back to a desktop with xp and it runs perfectly exept this grrrrrrrrrrr.

ok i guess the turning off of the anti-virus is true bcuz i just got one installed into my laptop and now it goes even slower..

Since you are using video,
try these tweaks that are being tested as we speak to aliviate some types of crashes. They may help your particular issue.

TWO TWEAKS:
1.) Virtual Memory – Changed to: System managed size (thanks dj-in-norway)
My computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance [Settings] > Advanced > Virtual Memory – Select “System managed size”

2.) Memory management – Changed to: 1
From what I understand, your virtual memory IS NOT all cleared out at shutdown (by default) – some data stays in your Virtual Memory unless you perform this tweak that clears your pagefiles and other data from your Virtual Memory at shutdown.
Start > click Run > Type “regedit” > (in the left menu expand) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Session Manager > Memory Management (folder) > (right side pane, double-click) Clearpagefileatshutdown. The Edit DWORD Value window will be displayed. Type 1 in the Value data field, then click OK. Exit the Registery Editor. Restart for changes to take effect.

ok now its gettin annoying..it keeps stuttering this happened after i installed a anit-virus..but i disabled it so it wont slow down VDJ but it keeps slowing it down..

Do a
Ctrl + Alt + Delete > Processes
to see if your Anti-virus is still running in the background. If it is, you can "End Process" to try to stop it.
Keep in mind that sometimes, eventhough you disable programs, they keep running or simply re-enable themselves.
Do a web search on any Process you may not recognize such as avgupsvc.exe etc.

Since I don't connect my VDJ lappy to the web, I completely deleted the anti-virus.

Thanks for these tweaks. With regards to number 1, What in effect does this do i.e. what is 'System managed size'

and number 2, I have formatted the main hd and reinstalled windows xp should i still do this?

If its any use to anyone, i found this aswell
RECOMMENDED XP TWEAKS

These are only suggestions. Though tried and tested you make these changes at your own risk.

First of all, dedicate your machine to DJ work if possible. If you can’t do that think about dual booting your machine so you can have one setup for general work and another for a DJ session.

The following tips assume that you are dedicating the system for DJ work and are not taking the system onto the internet.

General tips
Make sure your system is clean before you start tweaking - do a full anti-virus sweep and anti-spyware sweep.
Uninstall any programs you don’t need.
Defragment the hard drives.

Tweaks
Turn down the pretty windows effects ;
Windows XP Users: - Right click on My Computer - Click Properties - Click Properties, then Click Effects Tab - Click Settings Button in Performance Section - Click Adjust for Best Performance - Click Apply, then OK Effects: - Right click on desktop, then Click Properties - Click Appearance tab - Click the "effects" button - UNCHECK the box to "Use transition effects" - Click Apply, then OK Effects: - Right click on desktop, then Click Properties - Click Appearance tab - Click the "effects" button - UNCHECK the box to "Use transition effects" - Click Apply, then OK - Uncheck box to the left of: "Use transition effects for menus and tooltips" -Click Apply, then OK (Thanks to www.pcdj.com for that extract)

Wallpaper, colour depth and power saving
Some people recommend turning the wallpaper off but as long as it’s a static image you shouldn’t need to do this on a modern system.

Disable any screen savers and make sure your power settings are all set to “Always on”. To do this, right click on the desktop to bring up the menu, select PROPERTIES.

Click on the SCREEN SAVER tab, select NONE for the screensaver.

Now click on the POWER button and change the settings to all read “ALWAYS ON” and turn off to “NEVER”. Click OK to get back to the main properties window.

Now click the SETTINGS tab. The default colour depth will be 32 bit, you don’t really need this for DJ work so turn it down to 24 or 16 bit. Most modern systems won’t show any increase in performance but its still worth trying.

System performance
Click START, open CONTROL PANEL and select SYSTEM. Click the ADVANCED tab, then click SETTINGS on the “Performance” section. Click “ADJUST FOR BEST PERFORMANCE”. You shouldn’t have any of the boxes ticked in the list.

Now click on the ADVANCED tab. Change the processor priority to give best performance to PROGRAMS. (This is usually the default)

Windows annoying boing sounds
Turn them off. Click the START button, go to CONTROL PANEL and open SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES. Click the SOUNDS tab and change the default sound scheme from WINDOWS DEFAULT to NO SOUNDS. Click OK.

Disable MSN messenger
It’s a resource hog and this is how to kill it.
Right click on the MSN icon in your takskbar and select OPEN. Go to TOOLS on the menu, select OPTIONS. Go to GENERAL settings and uncheck the “Automtically run Messenger when I log onto Windows” box.

System level services
If you’re not sure what a service does, leave it alone.
Go to CONTROL PANEL, run ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS and select SERVICES.
You will see a list of services and a vague description of what they do. Double click on a service to change its properties, set all these as follows;

Alerter Disable
Application layer gateway service Manual
Application management Manual
Automatic updates Disable
Background intelligent transfer Disable
Clipbook Disable
Com + event system Manual
Com + system application Manual
Computer browser Disable (leave alone if you run a network)
DHCP client Disable (leave alone if you run a network)
DNS client Disable (leave alone if you run a network)
Error reporting service Disable
Event log Disable
Help and support Disable
IPSEC services Disable (leave alone if you run a network)
Machine debug manager Disable
Messenger Disable
Netlogon Disable (leave alone if you run a network)
Network connections Disable (Manual if you run a network)
Network location awareness Disable (Manual if you run a network)
Perfomance logs and alerts Disable
Print spooler Disable
Remote registry Disable
Security center Disable (leave alone if you run a network)
Server Disable (leave alone if you run a network)
System event notification Disable
Test schedule Disable
TCP/IP netbios helper Disable (leave alone if you run a network)
Telephony Disable (unless you use a dialup inetnet account)
Themes Disable
UPS Disable (unless you use a UPS of course)
Webclient Disable
Windows firewall/connection share Disable (leave alone if you run a network)
Windows time Disable
Wireless zero configuration Disable (unless you have Bluetooth or 802.11b/g
Workstation Disable (leave alone if you run a network)

Just connecting your system to a broadband router does not count as running a network.

You can always turn these services back to automatic if you need them later.

Write behind cacheing
XP holds data in memory before writing it to the hard drive, change it so data is written immediately to disk. Plug in any external hard drives before the next step.

Go to START, CONTROL PANEL and run SYSTEM. Click on the HARDWARE tab and click DEVICE MANAGER. Click the little + sign next to DISK DRIVES to expand the tree. For each hard drive listed click PROPERTIES and uncheck WRITE CACHE ENABLED.

But I really need internet access on this machine!
OK don’t panic. We know a lot of users rip CD’s directly onto their DJ rig and need internet access to retrieve track names.

Assuming that you have broadband, throw away that awful USB modem you got for free with the internet supplier and buy a cheap MODEM ROUTER instead. The router connects directly to your broadband account and does not require a host computer, unlike your USB modem. Routers also have good security with a hardware firewall built in to prevent your machine being randomly attacked while on the net. You should be safe behind a router. In comparison using a USB modem and no firewall you can EXPECT to be hacked in under two minutes. NO, we aren’t making that up we do mean under two minutes.

Basically the router prevents hackers from seeing your machine in the first place. They can’t attack what they can’t see – that’s the protection a firewall gives you. Having the firewall built into the router means you can’t forget to turn it on and you don’t need to be running a software firewall on the PC itself.

The router connects to your PC or laptop either with a network cable (provided with the router) or if you have a wireless router and wireless capable PC guess what, you don’t need the cable.

So, you can have internet access with a DJ rig as long as you go through a router.

Summary
These tweaks are only suggestions for DJ work. There is plenty of advice for system tweaking on the internet but remember most tweaks are aimed at games performance, not audio.

"Virtual Memory" is a space on your drive that is use as fake RAM by VDJ and other programs. With this tweak you allow Windows to manage this "fake" RAM and keep it from being too small to handle its function.

The "Clearpagefileatshutdown" Tweak - clears that Virtual Memory competely at every shutdown (without this tweak, Virtual Memory is NOT completely cleared at shutdown)

Ok well after i uninstalled the anti virus from my laptop it doesnt stutter any more but it seems like it freezes but the wave form continues to roll and the sound comes out just fine...but when i record it thru vdj when i listen to my sessions it skips the parts where it would freeze..WHAT DO I DO PLEASE HELP CAUSE NOW I CANT RECORD MY SESSIONS!!!!

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
