i have a toshiba satellite, 2Ghz core2duo, 4G of ram, 17" monitor and 360G hard drive...should i change it???????what do u use??? and what do u recommend????

I recommend you try out the machine you have and see how it performs for you. Since you have a machine, why not put it to the test, and see how it handles the controller you like? It really should not make a difference. I am not a laptop expert, and only use a laptop as a backup and to stay online. I have four harddrives in my desktop and will add another soon.

Are you intending to do video, and if so what video card does that laptop have?
If not, it's more than adequate for audio mixing.

your laptop is in my eyes big enough to work with midi controllers.
If you do only mix music, no problem. By mix Music Videos or something like that, use as SBDJ sayed, a good grafic/video card.
With xp is the cpu performance better than with vista.
I had a old laptop for reserve with 1,4Ghz, 1,5GB RAM, 80GB HD, normal graficcard aboard.
And, it works fine for normal music and video mixing.
