Topic: Virtual Dj ( Control Master Peak Needed ) Main output Peak Meter in dB

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I would ask you something about Virtual dj ? What could improve a software. The software is fantastic, but missing something. I have been dj for so many years, so I found one thing mising : master peak monitor for main output from soundcard wich should be placed on the main skin; example if you\\\'re using midi controler there is no master peak on midi controler is it ? So main output cannot be controled, so in this case you get sometimes distorsion from main output wich could blow speakers to .So if this could be made on the software, then it would be perfect.I hope You will be able to make this function working . thank you ,Cheers !!!

I'm not sure I understand your question but will try to answer as best I can. I assume that by monitor you are talking about a VU meter.
There is a meter and gain control on each deck. It might be nice to have the meter calibrated in dB, but the actual output level will depend on your individual sound card and potentially windows settings too. Therefore it is probably not possible to calibrate the meter to suit everyone.
You can use the gain control to set the level on the track you are cueing to the same as the level of the live track. Set the gain on your amplifier to prevent clipping and distortion with the deck meter near the top.
Using the Internal Mixer skin, the master level control is on the skin, at the top of the screen. There is no master meter. A master meter should not be required because of the meters on the decks. Try to set the level of a track before bringing it live. If you bring a track live then see on a master meter that it is too loud, it's already too late.
Both the gain controls and the master level control are available via MIDI. If you are using a standard MIDI controller, you may need to make a custom program for it (using General MIDI) to acces the Gain and master level. I don't have full MIDI controller so I'm not entirely certain how this works (I only access video crossfader via MIDI).

craigh: the current meters do not display clipping, which is the most
important reason of having meteres in digital world in the first place.
And I agree that this should be included in the software. I mean all
professional programs for music production have that included, where
users are in general more educated about digital distortion than those
using a DJ software, who are more likely to crank it up too much and
create problems.

Thanks because u r Only one who understood My question ! That is what Im saying in virtual dj skin says 0 dB wich is allright works fine but the main problem is master output from sound card ,I know if u using external mixer that problem could be solved ! u can monitor vu metre ,I just wanna get rid off my mixer ! on midi device u do not have vu metre u can control manul what u here but not accurate as on mixer wich got vu metre is it ? I m right , midi device is good because u have mixer ,decks And some of them have sound card built in All in one in it ? I personally think the main output master should be controled in virtual dj And Need this Upgrade If possible Example: if u got midi controler why will need external mixer when u got that in midi controler? something need happen : Midi controler has to built vu metre for master output or virtual dj ? I think virtual dj should do that to be controled every sound card main output ! I hope They gonna do that for Virtual dj users !!!

The problem is within the software itself, as you can distort the songs
on channels themselves, and it does not matter how much analog output
you generate from the card, it's still a clipped signal. So by limiting internal
gain of the channels and optionally a master output from the software
the problem should be solved.

Anyone with a properly working brain who knows a shred about digital audio is not going to defend not having a master meter in VDJ. Simple as that.

Thanks for comment on a two year old post!
