Touch Screens
I had just last week reformatted the system.

This started Last Saturday night about halfway through my gig the mouse curse started to bug out. Every so often the pointer would spring to a spot on the screen and just start shaking. The only way I could get control back was to hit the left or right button on the mouse.

TONIGHT……
The KEY button on the skin Valemix v2.0 right player was engaging all by itself while a song was playing and the key changed as well. They key it changed didn’t even match the song in the right deck .
I could be typing anything and it would just engage. NO it didn’t happen when I added a song to the left deck.

I was thinking static in the air but tonight problem seems to be something else.

Once the loop button engaged and about a minute later disengaged..

Do not underestimate the horrors of static. There was a time I would come into the booth, and just put my hand close to the mouse. Boom, my machine would reboot. It took me a while to track it down to static. It only happened in the winter time (carpet, heat, dry air). So, I got a spray bottle that you pump up, sprayed the carpet in the booth at the beginning of every shift, problem solved. I now spray the carpet when I do mobile gigs.

Thanks.

I'm not on rug and definitely no shocks, zaps or small bolts of static Electricity.

I guess my question would need to be more about my touch screen and can static create these issues.

Unlike some touch screens on the market, the screen is sealed to keep from having moisture issues but the rear of the monitor has ventilation holes.

Most important to keep in mind, these issues happened even when I wasn’t even touching the any part of the road case. I was sitting there and the dam KEY engaged.

I'd like to blame it on static but if I wasn’t closer than four feet for the unit, what could it be.

I'm going to try 2 recreate the problem tomorrow and if it happens I'll add some moisture to the room with a humidifier and see what happens.

i highly recommend getting ground loop isolators from your local electronics store they have cut out all my static problems

I had one night in hell from static. I recommend getting one of these. Works real well, simple, easy, and cheap...not a bad combination.....

you could use this as a low tech static discharge unit, personally haven't needed to use this so far in any application... yet

Protect your valuable computer equipment from dangerous static electricity with StarTech.com's SWS100, one of many anti-static products carried by StarTech.com that exceeds IBM & US military static control standards. Designed to wrap around your leg, this product is made from the highest quality static dissipative material to ensure the safe operation of your equipment.

The anti-static wrist band that Terry (TearEmUp) has given you a link to, is probably your best and cheapest bet to get rid of static electricity.

We have to use them at work, every time we open our laser cabinets, to service the lasers, or fix a fault we have to wear one, as the static build up can cause well over £40,000 worth of damage, so for the sake of a few quid is well worth it.

I have found the ones i mentioned great because some of the clubs venues that I have worked have not been earthed properly and sometimes current can come through the RCA cables. This affects laptops in different ways. Sometimes cause a hum sometimes the laptop wil even shut down. No harm having extra protection for the sake of a tenner

No one is looking at what else it could be.
Has any of you that have or have worked with a touchscreen, DJ, store, have seen this thing happen.

Look at what happened on those two nights.

The mouse freaking out. Maybe Static.

the KEY and LOOP buttons. I would think not

I don't think a poltergeist following me

Sorry I forgot to mention I use a touch screen laptop. The ground loop isolators made a huge difference to system stability once added.

Also have you checked that your screen is calibrated correctly maybe do some of the more detailed calibrations. I worked in a radio station once where even the slightest vibration could set the touchscreen off, sometimes the controllers fail.

Either way for the sake of a tenner you cant go wrong grounding yourself no matter which option you take

Paul...when I had my static issue my machine completely quit working and rebooted. That was the second time, the first my mouse freaked out. The third time the songs playing switched decks.

Static is a very odd fish to deal with. By utilizing what has been suggested here you have ruled out one possible solution. When I learned trouble shooting the instructor used to drill in our heads, start at the bottom and work your way up. Not the other way around. He called it the K.I.S.S. method of troubleshooting, Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Hope this helps you narrow down your search for what happened to your system. Peace T

songs playing switched decks... I like that one.

I'm in the process of trying to recreate the issues but creating extremely dry conditions is going to prove difficult. I talked to a friend that works for POSitouch system and had never had a call regarding static and the systems are grounded..

But the deck switch is more up to my issue.. I'll spend the day running the system and get back with my findings

Thanks

Could you let us know how this turns out I am curious to see

OKAY…………………. I was into my 3rd song and bam!!!!!!!!!! KEY engaged. I play a couple of more song and BAMMMM!!!!!!!! Again.

I added moisture to the air by boiling water on the stove until my windows fogged up. I took a spray bottle filled with water and misted the room from top to bottom. And it BAMMM!!!!!!!!!! Still happens..

Last night I uninstalled and deleted vdj from the pc and reinstalled it.
Ran it on a loop all night. It’s still engaging. And it’s ONLY THE RIGHT DECK. ONLY THE RIGHT DECK.

I’m going to add moisture to the air again and check it again.

Tayla , i got one of those from Renee
