Hi guys, I'm new here, and as a PCDJ FX user for the past 6 years it was hard for me to decide between Serato and VDJ, I purchased both, and I am using Serato for MP3s and VDJ for video (I think they are great, and both have some advantages over the other) I am using the Denon 4500 midi controller for both, and VDJ sound I am running thru Rane' SL 1(sounds great) The only thing is that on my main system I have a Rane MP44 which I just loved(have it since '03) but I need a controller for the video, I do own a Denon 900 mixer, and although is a great mixer, I'm not sure I want to replace it with the Rane(awesome sound quality and features)...what would you do? Do I have other options to control the video mixing without sacrificing the Rane MP44? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.... DJ Louie

If you wish to be able to control video directly from the mixer itself (I.e: Using the real crossfader), you will need a MIDI compatible mixer. Unfortunately, the MP44 is not a MIDI mixer, so it cannot be used to control video mixing in VirtualDJ.
The Denon X900 mixer is ideal for use with the Denon DN-HC4500 because it can be linked via the X-Control feature, allowing video crossfading using the real crossfader. Alternatively, you could purchase another high-end MIDI mixer such as Pioneer DJM-800 and map the crossfader via the general MIDI mapper (CONFIG -> General MIDI)
Another alternative is the Denon DN-HC4500 Custom Mapper: http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/4558/Denon_DN-HC_4500_Mapper.html
This allows video crossfading from the HC4500 itself using any of the following:

- Automatic crossfading to the appropriate deck by pressing JOGMODE+PLAY.
- Crossfading using the jogwheel by holding down the CONT/SINGLE button.
- Crossfading left/right by pressing the << >> search buttons when the controller is in Video Mode.

JpBoggis, thank you for the info. My question is...when I downloaded the VDJ Pro, I got the skin for the 4500, is that the same as the mapper? I downloaded the link you sent, but how do I install it? If the mapper you are talking about, is the same as the skin that came with the program, I tried what you told me for the fade out, and didn't work. Please help me...Thanks in advance! Louie

A mapper and a skin are two different things.
A skin will change that appearance of the software itself ok you pc/mac screen.
A mapper changes/enables functions on a midi device/controller.
I am unsure how you activate this mapper after download as I don't have this controller but I'm sure someone else can
Push you in the right direction!!

Full installation and usage instructions are included in the mapper .ZIP file that you downloaded. Please see the file HC4500.txt
On the PC, installation is simply a matter of copying hc4500.dll to My Documents\VirtualDJ\Plugins\ControlDevice.
NOTE: You do not need the HC4500 skin to use the mapper. You can use any skin of your choice including the default skins. Skins only change the look of the software to suit your preferences.
