happens to all of us, but don't take it so bad - in some ways its a good thing. if the club is the kind that takes requests for music then it lets you know what they want to hear and if it doesnt pan out on the dance floor you can always blame it on them.

Right on both counts, sometimes we as Djs get too caught up in "We know what works" but on some nights the mood might be just a bit off normal and a request for a song you forgot about is just the spark the club needed that night...and if you are having trouble getting them dancing anyway what's one more song. If I have an "iffie" request I will use the scrolling text to put up something like "This is a special request from so-and-so" at least it makes them and their party feel good...and as wild country club says it blames it on them (and let't the crowd know it wasn't your bad taste).

Easy one. Tell them you will check to see of you have it and will fit in when you can. Its wonderful how many don't bother coming back after a few more drinks. The persistent ones are a pain so i generally play one from their choice.

yah, it's called "different ppl with different opinions". Been around for thousands of years. Please do not feel like the Lone Ranger. v :)

Had the same thing on Saturday at a wedding reception. Was asked to play up to date hits and r&b which i did and got people dancing. Then the bride wanted 60's and 70's to get the older people dancing and the dance floor cleared and the older people stayed where there were. Then she asked for 60's and 70's rock and roll so i did (status quo for example) and then apperntly she was not happy cos she did not like this heavy rock and roll (was not aware we had heavy and light rock and roll????) Then she wanted greece and abba and then moaned this is not rock and roll (i know) and that she wanted people dancing. In the end i just told her to let me do my job my way and i will get people dancing. 2 songs later the dance floor is packed with both young and old and they all had a great night.

It was my first wedding reception and i learned a few things from it but sometimes you just got to do what is best even against the peoples wishes and they will soon forget.

thanks to you all

In my experience, even the same playlist with the same people don't work in another day... You need to hear what they REALLY want, in the case of the wed, the bride want's people dancing and having fun, her way to try it is what don't work.

It's better to let them know, YOU ARE THE DJ, you are pro and could do the job. Anyway listen request and when you see it is a good idea, put that songs and see how it works. Finally this request is a sort of a feedback to what else could work in there.

Good Luck!

Most of my requests where for R&B so simply played akon and T.I to start and went on from there. Obviosly the requests gave me more of an idea of what they wanted to listen to but every gig is different. Another gig Madness got them all dancing so it really does depend on your crowd rather than any playlist i could give you.

Throughout the eve the biggest thing to look for is the feet tapping whilst there off the dance floor from there you know what they like and should know how to get them up to the floor.

Its MY MOUSE when im DJing, nobody gets close enough to use it to get the the config menu.
The PC is always on the opposite end of the booth to the crowd.

I know exactly how you feel....I seriously am beggining to wish lady gaga and akon hadn't been born.

And the ones that moan and say play it now, i'm going in a minute and the ones that ask for a song you played 10 minutes earlier....I hate you people!!!

I know it comes with the job, but for christ sake, you go out for the night and ask for the same songs in every bar! stay home, buy some cans and put now 72 on repeat!

rant over

i am from Jamaica so you know we are all about dance hall and reggae and some r&b but all is well we live and learn and thanks to you all for your feedback
