after a bit of trouble with cleaning my database (a dirty install was to blame) i have found that not all my tracks have been 'picked up' and the search facility cant find songs i know i have
What i have done recently is reformat my onboard hdd reinstall windows and vjd 5.2. I have also cleaned up my external hdd, reorganising all my tracks. Vdj has found the majority of my tracks but not all. Should this happen automatically or should i set up a scan one night.
Any info would be most appreciated

Try right clicking on the folders where your music is and click add to database again. That will usually pick up the missing song files.

hey,
first let's find out if vdj is adding the tracks at all.
ok..
click start
click run
type cmd to open up windows command program.
cmd
switch over to the directory of ur music. Ex: d: or e: or f: .. w/e
if you're all ready there. skip to the next step.
for the sake of this tutorial. we'll use the f drive.
f:
type cd\. to move all the way up to the root directory
cd\.
type this search string to count all mp3 files in all directories inside the hard drive
dir o/s/a:d/a:h/a:s/a:r/a:a *.mp3
when it finishes running it will show you a total count of the files. something like this
Total Files Listed:
112 File(s) 379,229,400 bytes
0 Dir(s) 20,025,229,312 bytes free
now we have the exact count including all hidden files, system files, etc.
open up vdj and search for all files in that directory by typing in the starting path of the drive
f:
if (total number of tracks in vdj) = (total files listed by cmd)
>> then (vdj has indeed added all the files correctly)
which means it's an issue with meta data. tags aren't in there. or they are wrong.
use mp3db or tagscaner or amps or amps mm to resolve this.
if (total number of tracks in vdj) < (total files listed by cmd)
>> then (vdj has not added all the files correctly)
which means it's a vdj issue and there's nothing u can do about it until the next release.
vdj 5 just doesn't support some files. i've been told that vdj 6 will fix that.
