I have 2 gemini cdt 05 hybrid turntables and have been using TCCDs for over 3 years. im looking to start using needles and TCV that came with my virtual vinyl 3 years ago. Is it worth it and as stable as the TCCDs? one of my biggest gripe w/ the cd was that the geminis dont have that great of a memory buffer for backspins, etc
and what do you guys recommend needle wise with virtual vinyl, etc to make it flawless? ive been 8/10 happy with the TCCDs, looking to do better with TCVs
thanks

I'll just lay out the pros and cons and let you decide because I used to use CDJs and I switched to Numark TTXs:
TCCDs
Pros:
-flawless playback because CDJs don't tend to skip
-you can use the CDJs multiple cue buttons
-more portable and lighter
-you can burn multiple copies of TCCDs and keep them on-hand incase your TCCDs wear out
-no needles to replace
Cons:
-no needle dropping
-scratching isn't as accurate (although you use the hybrid turntables so scratching is probably as good as vinyl)
-"cool" factor is less with CDJs
-certain scratch techniques aren't possible with most CDJs
-backspins suck due to the CDJs limited buffer
-Unlike the Numark TTXs, a lot of CDJs don't have adjustable start-up and brake speeds
TC Vinyl:
Pros:
-More of a hands-on "organic" feel for scratching and beatmatching
-Scratching is more accurate
-backspins are awesome
-"cool" factor (& chicks like touching vinyl)
-you can playback real vinyl
Cons:
-You have to replace needles and TC vinyl periodically
-Sometimes playback is a little quirky once needles and TC vinyl get worn out (but you can always switch to internal mode)
-Turntables are heavier and less portable
-There's always the danger of accidentally knocking the tone-arm off the record
-You can't play regular audio CDs
Mind you though, because you're using the Hybrid turntables some of these pros and cons don't apply
Turntables aren't for everyone. I guess it all comes down to "feel". Me personally, because I used to spin vinyl back in the day I prefer turntables over little toy-like jogwheel MIDI controllers. Plus I like to scratch a lot and nothing beats vinyl for that, despite what CDJ and MIDI controller fanboys will tell you.

yea, i hear ya... thats why i bought a hybrid turntable to begin with by like you said, the backspins are killing me, a few times when scratching it skips to a random part of the song (prob the players problem) and i really dont use the cue part anyway. how often would you say i have to replace needles? im a pretty heavy scratcher. and i bought the virtual vinyl 2 years ago, would that be v4 or v5 timecode?

I replace needles about every 6 months. I use V5.
