Topic: Can you spota FAKE from a GENUINE ???

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Ive been using 2 of those Sure SM58 microphones, and they have stood up well to Karaoke abuse.

over the years, ive always sworn that these mics are better then some budjet senheiser mics ive used.

now i find this page here while doing a search for a good picture of a mic to use as clipart.

Still i shouldnt complain, 5 years of use, at a cheeper price. :)

This has been a big problem with SM58's (& SM57's, and possibly others too) for a long time!
If you see something that normally costs you €€€ and you see it on popular auction sites for €€, be weary!!
They also frequently (but not always) show as shipping from Hong Kong or some such location where the manufacturer ain't got no manufacturing facility!!

I've done some A/B testing on legit SM57's .vs. a fake that someone had purchased thinking it was the real deal. I've also examined the internals and, I can tell you, there's a difference! Quality was definitely compromised on the one I tested anyways (sound quality, components and workmanship).

-Martin. (By the way, I'm not affiliated with Shure in any way - just happen to like their mics ;-).

anyone who has used a sure mic will always use a sure mic.

ive not had any issues with sound quality, like i said i was just looking for artwork.
but im gonna want to get the real McCoy now that i know how to validate them.

Excellent post! Good stuff to know, Cheers!

When it comes to something like Electronics, always buy from a reputable dealer. I avoid buying from an online retailer I've never heard of, but then I really don't like to buy electronics online period. I would rather go to a retailer that I can walk in to, talk to someone real and be able to walk back in and return or exchange it if necessary. It is a bit¢# do that online.
As for the mic itself, I do karaoke and I use Shure SM58 mics for their good quality sound but most of all their sheer durability. I also use Sennheiser e935 and e945 mics too which are better than the Shure SM58, these are also very durable but I don't let the public use these, they are for my use only, or maybe a regular I know and trust.

Very interesting info though regarding these knock-offs.

Keep on Spinnin' & Grinnin'!!

I brought a mic into the club one night and by feel, sound and weight, another dj swore it was a sm58. Wasnt... was a behringer xm8500 :)

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-XM8500-Microphone?sku=270490

ridiculous price, i cant tell the difference, sound amazing and is rock solid. behringer gets a few things really right sometimes... their powered speakers and now this mic!

but back on topic haha... on ebay, dont buy headphones either - the pioneer and sony m700 are both mass produced and sold on ebay...
