Topic: Denon S1200 Mapper Not Working with VD6

Denon S1200 Mapper will work great the first time you start VDJ6, go to config, select Asio setup, Make sure both decks are connected using source connect to PC, make sure the decks are viewable in the Denon Driver Asio, check that decks are viewable in the drop down window of MAPPER tab and choose Denon S1200's on connected devices. You can hit rescan for new devices just in case and well - the decks work great with MIDI control... Beautiful control and response

that is until -

you decide to end that VDJ session to test the decks again, close the decks and the software.

Now, when you go back to restart VDJ, go through the whole process, the decks are not viewable in the Mapper section so you can't use them MIDI.

Yes, I:

Reinstalled the Denon Drivers
Reinstalled VDJ6.1
Checked that the Decks are connecting to the PC

the only way that I can get VDJ to recognize the decks again is to restart the PC...

Any ideas or solutions for this problem? If you go to the Denon forums, I believe that there might be other Denon S1200 users who are having this same problem with the decks and the new mapper. The last version VDJ5 didn't have this issue when it came to the mapper and the detection of the decks once you shut down VDJ and decided to restart the software, etc...

I read the post on the Denon forums ... not sure what is going on ...

But one point I want to make about the new Mapper -- you will only see 1 Denon 1200 listed in the drop-down ... not sure who made a comment about not seeing 2 but there will only be 1 listed but 2 will be initialized and setup.

The Switch connections option on the button to the right of the devices drop-down ... is to swap the assigned decks if after you start VDJ the left is on the right and the right is on the left.

Also, you do not need to change the MIDI channels of the units. Leave them the defaults .. we split them internally in VirtualDJ.


Question: If you do not setup the Denons to be used as the sound card, do you get a more consistent recognition of the units in the mapper?

Correct, I'm seeing the 1 Denon 1200 listed in the drop down.

Yes, when I get the Denons to connect the first time I understand about the switch option...

I had the MIDI channels set as my left was one and the right was two. The only options listed on the decks are Set Midi Channel 1 - 6, etc... The Unit is set to all , etc...

If you do not setup the Denons to be used as the sound card, do you get a more consistent recognition of the units in the mapper?
Elaborate. Right now under Config: I'm using INPUT: None OUTPUT: External Mixer SOUNDCARD: Asio (Denon Dj Asio Driver) Ultra Latency Asio (Checked). When I hit the Asio tab I see that both decks are enabled in the Denon Driver.

Are you suggesting another way to config?

check your vdj private messages...
 
Just set you system up with Simple Soundcard settings to your internal sound card. Not when you shut down and restart VirtualDJ, do the 1200's consistently get recognized?

Also, my responses were in general to the posts at the Denon forums .. just to clarify some points made there if you had read them.


And, sorry can't hook up with MSN right now ...
 
Yep, they are recognized under simple soundcard...

Outputs - Single Output
Soundcard - Simple -> choose your internal card - NOT a 1200.

Now, Shut down VirtualDJ, reopen it and are the 1200s listed in the Config -> Mapper in devices drop down
Repeat the process a couple times of closing and reopening VirtualDJ and check the Mapper -- are the 1200's always there ?
Or do you get the same results you have been getting in the past - where sometime they are there and other times they are not ?

With those settings, as long as I didn't change on the Denon's the source button to disconnect from PC, the decks were always detected. In other words, as long as I didn't disconnect with the Denon's from the PC, VDJ6 detected them in mapping.

However, once I disconnected from the Denon's, using the source button on the decks, the software was never able to detect them again. Maybe once it detected one deck even thought the Denon Asio showed both were connected...
 
Ok, with those same Soundcard settings ... and the controllers in MIDI mode, open VirtualDJ

Go to the Mapper tab in Config ... for the Keyboard add a new entry and use Ctrl+S and add the action rescan_controllers

Now close VirtualDJ, and disconnect the controllers using the Source button on the Decks.

Open VirtualDJ, put the decks back in MIDI mode and then press the Ctrl+S keyboard shortcut.

Are the 1200s now seen by VirtualDJ ?

If no, please report back.
If yes, then change the Soundcard settings to the ASIO options to use the 1200s.
Then close VirtualDJ and disconnect the Denons from MIDI. Open VirtualDJ, put the 1200s back in MIDI mode, press Ctrl+S, are they detected now?

Btw, thank you for doing all this ... I think we are close to knowing what might be the problem.

The first time, it worked. I did exactly as you said and it detected the Denons. Shut off VDJ and repeated the process, the decks weren't there but I hit Control S and they were there. Switch to ASIO and it was Great! One caveat, the sound was confused even if I switched or change the output cards. Right deck was only playing on the left hand side and vice versa...

But then, after I shut down and did all those steps again, the decks couldn't be found again... :( In single output, you can see the Denon listed under soundcards but under the mapper they are MIA even if I hit Control S.

I'm glad to help, if we can get this fixed and it helps other VDJ users who are using the Denons that would be a noble thing for the Dj community.

have you tryed turning the dennons off before closing vdj?
then close and wait a short pause, then turn dennon back on after vdj closed...

now open vdj. can you detect the dennons now?
 
Yes, I tried that. Didn't work. Its a mapper issue when detecting the decks for the second time. The PC reads them, the Denon Driver reads them, but the mapper in VDJ doesn't the second time around.
