Topic: Broadcasting using web hosting rather then a web server.

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Hey guys i want your input.

I have a website with great webspace bandwidth etc.

How can i use this hosting package to stream liver feeds using shoutcast?

I.e. rather then streaming directly from my computer, i want to upload it to my website (live) then have my website handle the traffic.

This is a much more cost effective way for me rather then paying for a webserver.

Just want to know if it is possible and how?

Maybe there is some php script for shoutcast or something that i can upload to my webserver to handle the task.

WOuld be fantastic, then instead of streaming at under 40kps i could have 90-120's

Check in shoutcast site... www.shoutcast.com how to configure your website

This is not possible because the shoutcast server is an executable service which must be configured to run on the server. It binds two ports - one for the incomming stream (feeder) and the other for the listeners. As it is a unix or windows service it is not possible to just upload it to your webspace.

port: the port i specified in the sc_serv.conf
Name: ??? do i leave blank, confused on the one?

Password: the password i specified in the sc_serv.conf
Genre: i leave blank

any hep would be so thank full

For anyone interested in broadcasting via mac i have found the perfeccccct solution and is very cheap.

Use a program on mac called NiceCast http://www.rogueamoeba.com/nicecast/

Then sign up to the internet site called Internet radio for streaming - http://servers.internet-radio.org.uk/

It cost me £5 for 10gb worth of bandwidth and it is PAY AS YOU GO :) 128kbs sound quality and 100max listners.

It is amazing and works great, plus you dnt have to worry about monthly payments, you just use it when you want.

A quick example - if you were streaming at 128 kbps for 3 hours to 20 listeners connected for the full 3 hours the bandwidth used would be 3.30 GB (£1.66p in bandwidth fees).

So instead of me spending hours of my time trying to set up a server on my shared hosting website (to then find out that my hosting service wont allow server streaming via shoutcast) was a real pain.

Just thought i would share this with you all

Shoutcast is cheap. I pay $9 USD/month for 48kbps AAC+ stream and 150 listeners. I use it for my Russian Radio www.VolnaFM.com
