Seems to me some better names for the Pitch Slider would be Tempo, Speed or BPM. Am I missing something here? Thanks

It's called a pitch slider because it changes the pitch...also because it is mimicking hardware which, guess what, calls it a pitch slider. Why do you care? Why am I answering this post?

Thanks for your response but aren't Pitch and Key synonomous?
When you move the Pitch Slider, Key is not changed but Tempo is. So wouldn't the designationTempo, Speed or BPM be better.
For a singer needing Key help, it is easy to inadvertently access the Pitch Slider.
For Ballroom Dancers, easy access to Tempo Control is very important.
Why am I asking? In the interest of understanding and correctness.

DanceHost ...
First you challenged why the pitch slider slows down the playback when you push up, but speeds it up when you pull it down.
Now you want to challenge the whole concept of Pitch, Tempo, and Key ... Spend some time at Wikipedia ...

It is called a pitch control because back in the old days there was no "keylock" and so when you raised the tempo the pitch would also raise and when you lowered the tempo the pitch would also lower.....Djs adopted the term "pitch" somewhat erroneously when they really were refering to tempo and didn't care what the pitch did as long as you kept the tempo and pitch within 3.3% (which is one octave and people start to sound like the chipmunks).
Sometimes in our world definitions of terms change due to ignorance of the definition, lack of caring of the definition, slang usage, misuse or changes in technology that make the old definitions outdated. In this case it is somewhat a little of each.

CS:
I accepted your explanation on the direction.
How about you reading again what i asked and the comment by dj-e-ectric.
I paid $300 for your system that doesn't have the features of a free player I used for years. I am still a little schocked each time I run into a feature that is missing. Up to now, I have tried to be civil with my suggestions. If they are not welcome, just give my $300 back and I will move on.

What exactly is it your looking for? Forgive my impudence but, from what I'm able to garner your attempting to get VirtualDJ to rename something that for over 30 years has been called "Pitch". That is what CStoll was trying to point out to you, unless I'm mistaken. Traditionally it has been called "Pitch" by dozens, if not hundreds, of manufacturers. Hundreds of thousands of DJs have come to know this action as "Pitch".
You can always download your skin of choice and rename the action in the skin. However, I doubt very much the name will ever be changed any time soon, based on the input from one user. Sorry if you find that offensive.....

It is just a question. Many Manufaturers and Music Hosts are now calling this Tempo and all Musicians and Dancers call it Tempo and use Pitch to denote degrees of sharpness and flatness or Key.
Thank you dj-e-lectric for your insight and understanding on this.
Reminds me of the saying, "Be not the first by whom the new is tried nor the last to leave the old aside." Maybe it's time.
Would be nice to have the various disciplines use a common language.

Wow... Didn't know things were this complicated. Move slider down song gets faster move slider up song goes slower. The way it has been for years. In my opinion i never look at the word above the slider I just know what it does.
If it means that much I would make a skin with a panel that i could change it to "tempo" "pitch" "speed" "bpm" depending on how i felt about it that day.

You have a point there...It would be nice for everyone to be on the same page. I suppose it's just another one of those "it's always been" issues, like dj-e-lectric pointed out.
I don't think that anyone was intentionally trying to give you grief about your question, things can sometimes have a way of becoming misconstrued, leading to confusion.

Host at a place like Ohio Star Ball or Blackpool and it gets very complicated i.e., demanding.

Thanks doc.
Feel CS went a little to the extreme in his delayed answer on this. I have some ideas that will help this product. In fact, I have one in the "Wishes Forum" right now and don't need his cuts. This wasn't the first time for this kind of treatment in these forums.
In other companies forums I have read of the arrogance here and I tried to defend it but now I have joined them and this is my response.
I have been in this business since 1951 so I know a little of what I am talking about.

Do you mean like the Queen's English and what we speak here in the U.S.? That hope also, is too much to ask in my opinion.

Criticizm always taken with a grain of salt ...
But, as pointed out when you asked about the Pitch slider direction ... it has always been that way in the DJ world.
As, dj-e-lectric pointed out; the answers to your questions this time has always been that way in the DJ world.
What other's call it in other 'realms' is not our fault and we (DJs) should not have to change to their standards. VirtualDJ is a DJ software not a ballroom dancer.
What I tried to give you; based on our last encounter; was a place for you to get the answers to the questions you stated. Instead of me giving an answer that you would take as my opinion on the subject.
Cheers
