I am currently using a EVGA NVIDIA 8600GT w/ 512MB DDR2 (unsure of the memory).
XP SP3 and running VDJ5 and now VDJ6.
ASUS P5KPL-CM mobo running a E8400 w/ 4gb.
While I am currently not doing full screen dual monitor video fancy mixing, I want the ability. Being able to effortlessly play HD encodes is desired.
The current card has two DVI and one S-Video. the SVID never worked correctly in any of the NVIDA cards.
That said, what I have now is decent.
However, I have heard that certain NVIDIA & ATI chipsets can give heartburn.

Just seen this message and while there are issues with the Nvidia GeForce8 series cards they seem to be random. I have an Nvidia Geforce 8600GT with 1 Gig DDR2 on the card and have no issues with it dual displaying out the S-Video port but my 8400GS card will not dual-display at all. Also, that ASUS board is too slow to properly handle that E8400 chip. Since your using a mATX board I would go with a Intel G45 chipset board like the ASUS P5Q-EM or even a Intel G35 chipset board like Intel's own DG35EC. These are more performance oriented boards than the ASUS board you're currently using which is nothing more that a "doctored up i945 chipset designed to handle FSB1600."

I prefer genuine ATI video cards. Just remember to match the card to which version directx is installed on your PC. Vista and XP are different. Also, make sure you get the most amount of memory on the card. Never had a problem with ATI.
