Topic: VDJ vs Serato

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I was wondering if I could get an unbiased comparison between the two. After using VDJ for several months now... I am absolutely amazed with it. I feel like it is such a powerful and innovative piece of software.

So, here's where my question lies.

Serato.. Is it just as good as VDJ? Are they completely the same/opposite? Pros and Cons?

In no shape or form will my decision to use VDJ be altered by the results from this question... I'm just curious about Serato, since I don't know too much about it.

this questioin has been asked, discussed and debated so many times, please do a search and you will find several serato v vdj posts.

In short and this is MY OPINION!!!!

Serato - Good for scratching and turntablism...

VDJ - Good for everything else....Vids mixing over all feel is good and easy to use...

Perfect, thats all I needed to hear.

I agree

Which ever software package is the most comfortable for the user will naturally be "The Best". Too many people follow trends to be in the "In Crowd". Choose the one that helps you express your DJ creativity.

How in the world would you ever expect to get unbiased opinion here?! That's just silly. Image going to serato.com and asking the same question to that bunch?! Just venture to guess their responses, lol. They would be burning VDJ at the stake. At least here we'll be "kinder" to Serato.

I agree.

I used VDJ for 3+ years with great success. The had issues with only a few things like VDJ not able to read MP4 video tags like mp3 ID3 tags while Serato Video can. And I had a configuration nightmare when it came to trying to use VDJ through my laptop and tried several different USB soundcards. Everytime I turned on my system it was like 10 to 15 minutes to configure it. That doesn't work when you are DJ-ing at different nightclubs and everyone is wondering what is going on... why haven't you started yet? That was previous versions. It worked great on a custom built PC that was made for the DJ booth or whatever mobile type application you are doing!! No problems there whatsoever!!

I mainly use Serato now because most clubs here in Las Vegas use the ttm57sl and with my MacBook Pro it is a simple plug-n-play thing. I am ready in like one minute! It has NEVER let me down. Serato has plenty of video effects, transitions, etc.. to satisfy any video DJ's needs. There is one thing I don't like is the updating the crates... what a pain. But luckily there is a third party app that can do everything you need in regard to syncing folders to crates.

I do use VDJ for other DJ-ing needs outside my guest DJ spots and traveling to clubs, etc. I haven't had the real chance to put the new version to the test but from what I have heard it is the best version ever and has resolved most issues everyone has had if any.

So... VDJ vs Serato... it is a matter of preference and needs. Each has their strengths and weakness. At least with VDJ you have try the trial version!! Serato doesn't have that luxury for possible new users.

Do your research and talk to local DJ's who use either one and ask to try each one out. Then make a choice.

I personally love both for different reasons!!

I totally agree Al.

It's also true that you'll find more respect on this forum for other products, partly because VDJ has never been limited to particular hardware. Chances are that any brand or product that floats your boat will work with VDJ, and because of this VDJ is seen as more complex because there isn't just one set of instructions. I understand that SSL is going the same way though...

lol i meant 3 months

Al, just curious what is the name of the third party app you are making reference to? For updating folders to Serator crates

+1

That is one of my biggest complaints about Serato. Updating the library can be hell. Try adding 20 gigs of music to Serato and then do the overview on it all!? Holy f#@k man!! It took me 4 days to get through it all and then it just froze, I restarted and lost all of the progress. Needless to say I was so pissed! I love how you can type in a song or artist in VDJ and it will find it almost instantly. I will find it through all of my hard drives and I don't have to "add it" like in Serato.

Another thing...about 30% of my music is in FLAC and Serato has been dragging a$$ on supporting it, what the hell? VDJ has had FLAC support for a looong time?!

I'm very happy with VDJ, I use Serato for certain things but mostly VDJ.

The app is called ScratchTools.

Go to:

http://forum.scratchtools.de/index.php

for all the info.

It can be tricky at first to figure out how to get it configured but once it is set up ... you have no worries. It works!

Is this "open-source" and freeware?

DJ RuDe

It's not open source. It is donation-ware....
Free... but you can donate if you like.

And no..it's not because it's better, it's got it's great points and it's drags too and so does VDJ...It's not a hands down win, not at all, VDJ has much more to offer at one solid price! period
