Hi!
I am having issues with two of my DMC2 controllers. I do have three laptop PCs, all dual core, two are 32 bit vista, one is 64 bit. So far, I've experienced this issue with two laptops and two separate controllers.
The issue at hand is that the audio begins to stutter, usually first on the right deck, then the left after about an hour of play. You can hear the stuttering music as well as see it in the virtual dj program and on the time display on the DMC2. I've found the only way to stop the problem is to stop the show, close virtual dj, unplug the controllers usb, plug it back in, and re-open virtual dj. This is quite embarrassing at shows. Last night, I got a new twist thrown in when the stuttering started. As soon as I heard it, I unplugged the usb to save the show. Music went back to playing fine. I also run sax n dotty for karaoke, so while the next person was singing, I closed vdj, connected the DMC2 again, and restarted virtual dj. VDJ did not recognize the controller. I never had these issues with version 5.2 and 5.2.1. This weekend I have a large school dance and a wedding; I can't have this issue. Is it possible its a bad usb cable and if so, does the dmc2 use special usb cables? Any help is appreciated?

What mode is the jogwheel in?
If it is in scratch mode (WHEELMODE button LED lit), vibrations from your speakers/people dancing/ etc. may be causing the jogwheel to move slightly triggering a scratch and pausing the music momentarily. The same thing will also happen if you accidentally bump the jogwheel.
If it's in scratch mode, try toggling it to jogwheel mode by pressing the WHEELMODE button (The LED should be off.)

The jog dial was in scratch mode actually. When I had version 5.2.1, I used a custom mapper from this site and always had the jog in "normal" mode. I will change that and experiment at my show on Thursday evening. In the event I still have the problem, what is the next step? Remember, I could not get the computer to recognize the controller after this happened. I had to cut power to the controller to reset it.

on the stuttering issue, I am willing to bet its cause of the scratch mode. the jogs on the DMC2 are so sensitive that if its in scratch mode and someone farts in your general direction it stutters. as far as it not reading the controller after you disconnected the USB, try this and see if it fixes it (preferably at home not at a gig, lol). Start VDJ with the DMC2 hooked up and everything, load tracks in both decks, start one of the decks and unplug the USB chord from either the DMC2 or the computer (your choice) and then plug it back in. now it should not be reading that its connected to the software cause it lost its connection (atleast mine doesn't when this happens) go to config, select the controllers tab (or whatever it is called in 6.x.x being as I am on 5.2.1 I am not sure) and your controller will probably still be "active" in config. right click, hit activate (which deactivates it) and then right click and activate again. now it should read your controller. if not.....I'm not sure what to tell you.

Thanks Michael...I will try that. It does seem the jogs are much more sensitive when used with 6. What is weird is that its not the typical scratch sound but more like stutters and blips which will get worse until the music stops. Time to experiment.

yeah, thats just because the jog isn't actually moving, its just vibrating. its like having a song playing and just setting your finger on the jog with it in scratch mode will stop the song for a second like its a touch sensitive jog (atleast mine is that sensitive). when it vibrates its picking up that slight vibration and its stopping the track for that split second causing the stutter. since the jog isn't actually moving it doesn't make that "scratching" sound.

In VDJ v6, to re-activate the controller, try going to CONFIG -> Mappers tab, click on the button to the right of the drop-down list at the top (Normally showing Keyboard) and choose Rescan for new devices

Thanks! I will keep that in mind tonight in case I have the issue.

A friend of mine was configuring VDJ 6.0.2 with his DMC2 and found that the Key Lock was on by default, and his laptop was not optimized for the "master tempo" aka KeyLock configuration. Whenever he hit the jogwheel, it could cause popping and stuttering.
Once he turned the keylock off via the DMC2, the jogwheel no longer caused issues with the sounds. So you may consider that if you do not notice an improvement with the wheel mode adjustments.
Also dont forget the whole latency check list available on multiple posts and available via support.

Hi Chad:
I've really only had this issue since I went to version 6. Last night, I had a complete freeze up a wedding, luckily, during dinner. I could not get the controller to reconnect either; even when I tried the rescan option. Ironically, I opened up the mapper setting tab and the boxes for both HID and MIDI were checked. I unchecked the MIDI box and instantly the controller reconnected. I went 3.5 hours with no problems after this change. I'm thinking that may be the bug in the software; at least with the DMC2. I will be changing that setting on my two other computers also to just HID

I also encpountered some strange behavior. (VDJ with DMC2)
It was caused by my keyboard ! unplugging it solved everything.
Now I have disabled the keyboard shortcuts in settings/mappers. I only use the keyboard for seach.
Realy annoying is that some mpg files (with AC3) dont play normal stereo sound, has anyone found a work around for that.
Kind regards

I use laptops but I think I will disable keyboard shortcuts; its one less thing to worry about and I don't use them anyways

I had this problem and in my case it was the settings issue and the sensitive Jog wheels.

I had something querky with my DMC2. It did not freeze my song or software, but one deck would not respond entirely. Not sure if it is the same thing or not for you... I rescanned for devices in the config, mappings tab. Seemed to come back.
I was running Windows 7 at the time on a Sony. I was getting music freezes on that laptop, but it did it on 2 different controller/sound card configurations.
I have since moved to a MAC setup. I have tested my Stealth/Audio4DJ, but not my DMC2/DJIO setup. I will be doing so as I have a gig this weekend. After that I am most likely moving to a Xone DX/Serato itch setup once it comes out.
Best of luck!

should have invested in a mac lol?
see the only reason why mine is crashes is the fact that its sucking to much processing power. i remeber in windows xp you can turn off some of the background proccess but i have yet to find out which ones i can switch off in windows 7?

I setup my rack yesterday with Audio4DJ and DMC2 using my MAC. No issues with DMC2... I only played perhaps for 30 or 45 minutes. I plan on playing more this afternoon to ensure it is okay. i have ran two 8 hour auto mix sets on my MAC/VDJ setup while sleeping and it was up and running every morning when I got up. So that is a good sign; however does not mean a jog wheel turn or something might cause me an issue...
Regarding the MAC setup... I am VERY happy with my MAC overall. However, from a VDJ stand point you loose alot. There are no plug ins, and almost at every turn support is telling you to just run Bootcamp/Windows. Which just defeats the purpose of buying a $1800 laptop just to turn around and run the OS you wanted away from in the first place. So I would not suggest switching to a MAC solely for the purpose of VDJ stability as it is not greener on that side. I have had good results if I just mix from deck to deck, use auto loops, etc... but step outside those core functions and it gets iffy if the function is there or stable.
The DMC2 worked just fine on my Sony and HP using VDJ 6.0.X. So I do not think your issue is directly related to VDJ. You may have a bad USB cable? Always good to have a spare on hand I find.
