My dilemma

MSI received my card R4890-T2D1G-OC. It blow up.. and would like to replace it with R4890 Cyclone OC..
Yes it 2 is a very nice card but the problem is…..
I convert the S-vidio to RCA to run to all the house systems in the clubs I work.. Not one club has anything but an RCA into there system and one has a coaxial in.

They offered me this card that doesn’t have a S-video out but only HDMI vid out..
They also offered me to choose from one of there other card in exchange but they wouldn’t have the balls mine has…
They have some Gforce card that is attractive giving that VDJ have an issue with ATI drivers freezing videos..

What card would you take keeping in mind RCA inputs in the clubs,,, No,, I don’t want to buy another converter at $70 to 200 to convert the signal…

Take a look

MSI is an Indian company, say no more

It was only yesterday I was in a club having an argument with an Indian bodger about cutting cables and re-joining them by simply twiddling them together and then tapping them off afterwards. Using solder is just too professional! So I would never buy anything manufactured by them.

Not an isolated case either, there all like it! it's in the mentality to bodge things. The result is that the sound system buzzes like a twat! But is he bothered? No! it's just normal to him and in his words nothing to worry about.

thats nice but i doesnt answer the question.

No, your right it doesn't however you got a bit of advice about MSI.

Maybe you would be better in the technical forum

more user look here than there..

I think Im going to tell them to send me this one

Factually incorrect ... the majority of users run video cards with ATI chipsets.

And DO NOT QUOTE the post right before your own ... it makes the thread look like crap ... use the NEW POST button at the bottom of the page.

well 3 different ATI cards all freeze. Two different NVIDIA cards, no freeze... you tell me.. can't deal with it any more.. I like ATI but i just cant deal with it. And i just redid ALL my vids and still....

and you didnt answer the question thank you

Dude
I have never seen such a string of problems with any user, particularly an EXPERIENCED USER as you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what is wrong with your gear, but this is a pattern that can't be ignored.

You have home built systems, changed components again and again and continue to be plagued with these problems dating way back in our forum, all over our forums actually.

I would probably suggest you purchase a spec machine, not a store bought or home build system, from Sony, or Dell and get on with it.
How you go on like this and work in public is beyond me, I would be scared to death.

I do not have your specific answers, probably nobody here does, but I would start from scatch.
This is why nobody answers these threads anymore.
Historically you have video freezing which can be too many things without guesswork and the process of elimination.
So start with gear that doesn't "blow up" is my first advice.

If Nvidia is working on your system, then use Nvidia would be the answer.
Every show I do is video and I've never used anything BUT Nvidia.
Why you need someone to tell you this is beyond logic.

I didn't answer the question because I am not familiar with any other the cards you listed so I cant tell you if they are bad or good.

But ... my point of the post was to 'correct' the fact that you said 'ALL' ATI cards freeze VirtualDJ which is not true.

The biggest problem people have is they don't listen to suggestions anyhow. They go out and buy what ever they want and then lay the claim of 'Well its the best and above specs' when it doesn't work. Well, I could go buy a EarthMover dump truck that can carry tons upon tons of dirt and move a refrigerator with it. But when I go to put it on the road and can't because the damn truck is to big then what?

My point is - that sometime when you buy something that is so good in specs - it lacks where it counts. The majority of video cards out there are being build for DX10 and VirtualDJ is firmly constructed on DX9 for it's video engine. There are still DX9 compliant (not compatible - but compliant) meaning built for DX9 that are out there. Now they may only have 256Mb or 512Mb of RAM but that is more than plenty. Also, you want DDR3 type RAM on the card.

We have been saying those specs OVER and OVER again for the last several years ... but no one listens. And, everyone goes and buys the 1Gb or 2Gb RAM cards that only support DX10 -- btw - DX10 is mentioned 3 times in the specs you listed - pretty sure it is a DX10 only card.

So do I have an answer for you ... Yes - http://www.google.com/products?q=DirectX+9.0+video+cards+PCI-Express+DDR3&aq=f

Btw, the 2nd one on the list if you sort by price (Low to High) ... is the one I use in my club system ... ATI only 128Mb of RAM ... never have had an issue with it.

Thank you.. now this makes sense.. Thank you.. I was just starting to think it had to do with DDR5.. but I had no idea that vdj didn’t like dx10.. I don’t recall anyone ever saying this.. and I miss spoke when I said every ATI card. has this issue... sorry Just the new ones I’ve purchased in the last 6 months... I'm going to look closer at the specs for DX9... but still.. I need to get back to MSI about what card I will take for exchange that they offer...

Thank you again

If I reformat my C drive and only install DX9 on all components, do you think that would solve the issue or would these card not work properly… I ask because MSI doesn’t offering only support DX10.. If not I will ask for a refund and hunt for a DX9 card

Chris/Atomix Team,

Based on whats been said here regarding DX9 - can i make a suggestion that the required specs on this page http://www.virtualdj.com/products/virtualdj/index.html are updated.

Given that DX10 cards cause problems, surely this page should recommend DX9.

Just a suggestion. =)

Is it possible to turn back DX10 to DX9 with Vista 32?
The card I’m using is DirectX 9.0c/DirectX 10 compatable.

you are probably right, but so long as you have both installed you shouldnt have a problem. I have DX8 and 9 on my machine and each program just uses what it needs.

Although i think most of my programs are now DX 9 compatible.

But having both on the system shouldnt cause any problems.

how can i tell what vertion of dx is on my vista pc

FWIW I use a DX10 compatible card on XP (obviously with DX9) without issue.

DX10 and DX9 will co-reside on vista; it comes with DX10 by default and isn't removable. What is being suggested to you is that you use a card that is *not* DX10 compatible - just DX9.

Sorry. didnt work. installed DX9 and no change. Going to poke around tomorrow and see if I can find a DX9 card with 512m ..

Thank you for you help
