Topic: Some videos that play in 5.2.1 don't in 6.0.2 - Page: 1

Dieser Teil des Themas ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten

I really want to upgrade to 6.0.2 but why is it that some videos that work fine on 5.2.1 throw up an error on 6.0.2!

I have two machines one using 5.2.1 with Windows 7 and one with 6.0.2 & Windows 7 so can double check that the video should work. If i try to play the affected video in any other media player on this "6.0.2" machine it also plays fine but not in virtual vinyl.

Very frustrating, need all my videos to work so will be forced to go back to the old version if there isnt a fix.

Any advice?

I met such problem. I live in Russian-spoken country so names of some videos contained Russian characters. There was a problem.
Full path to any file must contain Latin characters only. Hope, this helps.

Many thanks for the reply but not sure its that. What's even more confusuing is that i've downloaded different versions of the same music videos and they still don't play!?! Lets take one.....If anyone can play the 50 Cent - Just a lil Bit video on a 6.0.2 i'd be interested to hear

some formats do not work with vv, this will be fixed in the upgrade 6.03

what format you use?

Videos still not working in 6.0.3 :(

Just an example....does this video work for anyone?

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1E7VAHNW

It works fine in any media player and 5.0.2 but not the newer versions. This is just one of many that wont play anymore.

MASSIVE thanks to anyone that helps me get to the bottom of this :)

It's a great help cause if it does turn out to be something codec related then i'll be over the moon. If anyone else could test that would be great.

Thanks djdawarrior!!!!

hey worked fine in 6.0.3 as well... i do have the official divx driver installed on all my pcs... so maybe try that?

Installed latest Divx and still just shows as error! What the hell could I be doing wrong, hmmmmmm. Could someone else please test that vid.

Downloading it just now. Are you using VDJ on a PC or mac?

Thanks so so much kradcliffe! PC version here

OK, this is strange ...... 6.03 on both machines

On the Mac Pro running Snow Leopard it plays no problem.

On Windows XP it plays audio only.

That would suggest a Windows codec issue.

Update ......

On the PC version I unticked "use hardware acceleration" on the config>video tab.

Video plays perfectly now.

That may not fix your problems but maybe the new install has that ticked by default?

Keith

I wouldn't recommend running without video acceleration on though, it renders a lot of the video functionality useless...

Thank Keith for your time and trouble.

It makes no difference for me anyway. If it's unticked it still doesnt play, just throws up an error on load.

What i don't understand is if I uninstall 6.0.3 and go back to 5.2.1 then the video plays fine so surely it's not a codec issue.

So so confused

I tested that video on 6.0.2; works fine for me with avi set to both "Video Decoder" and to "Windows MediaPlayer video decoder" with no need to disable hardware acceleration.

What is your avi codec setting set to?

Thanks SBDJ! I changed the avi codec to Mediaplayer and yes it plays but with a long pause before it loads unlike an instant video with the "video decoder" codec. Is that normal?

Can you load other codecs or just those 2?

Any thoughts as to why the "video decoder" codec isnt working on this and many other files when they all work fine on 5.2.1?!?

Cheers bud. Rob

Not sure about the pause; I got the same.

Video Decoder: The file loads slowly
WMP Decoder: Pause, then file loads very quickly

Both however do work for me.

The WMP decoder will use the codecs installed on your system, for example ffdshow. Which codec is actually used will depend entirely on what is installed and how it's configured. GSpot can tell you if in doubt.

Is it possible to use the codecs included with VLC media player?

AFAIK VLC has it's own built in codecs that it doesn't make available to the rest of the system. It would need to expose them as a directshow filter. A quick google threw up this project which might allow that to happen. You'd obviously need to configure the codec preferences on your system too.
