To all of you who upgrade your systems on a regular basis, what is the best time of the year to buy a new computer? I've heard that August because of all the back to school deals, other say January because stores don't sell as much so they will put their best deal out there, other have said April because thats when all the new electronics come out... and the list goes on, so...

I think the best time is now. Its the holidays. Before i buy something, i always google it for the cheapest price. In the past, bought laptops from the dell outlet. They sell laptops that are certified Refurbished & Scratch N dent. I always buy the certified refurbished. You can get a 700 dollar laptop for 400-500 bucks. I ussually get better deals than black friday.

I really doubt there's a specific "best time of the year" for buying a computer - it's not like some kind of seasonal commodity.
Computers and electronics are cheap consumer commodities these days; The best thing is probably just to decide what you want and then keep checking the sites that track down deals for you until you find an appealing price and such.

ok so in this case, i was told by a friend that works for best buy to hold off at least until April because the computers that are being sold right now are those that had Vista OS and were returned to put Win7 in them and then sold as as such, some are even sold with Vista + free upgrade to Win7, in April the newer batch of computers come out fully compatible to take advantage of new technologies ...

this is very interesting as I need a new computer very badly so am buying a Mac Mini desktop in two weeks. G4 Tech TV just mentioned a few of the manufacturers and retailers that are having specials this holiday... probably a good time to get a new CPU
